San José Launches Homelessness Hub

The City of San José is proud to announce the launch of the Homelessness Hub, a new online resource designed to provide comprehensive information about the City’s efforts to address homelessness. Launched on September 12, 2024, the Hub serves as a central platform for connecting residents to homelessness services, offering tools for reporting issues, and sharing the City’s progress.

Key Features of the Homelessness Hub:

  • Centralized Information: Access detailed information on available services, the City’s homelessness response plans, and data tracking our progress in one easy-to-use location.
  • Reporting Tools: Residents can use the Hub to report encampments, trash, or debris through the integrated BeautifySJ Encampment Management System, simplifying the process of addressing community concerns.
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): The Hub includes a regularly updated FAQ section addressing common questions from the public and City staff, ensuring transparency and keeping everyone informed.

This is just the beginning — the Hub will evolve based on community feedback. We invite you to explore the Homelessness Hub and share your thoughts on how we can improve it to better meet the needs of our residents. Your input will play a crucial role in shaping future updates and enhancements.

Reducing Airport Emissions

San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) has achieved Level 2 certification in the global Airport Carbon Accreditation program, marking a significant step in its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions! This recognition was awarded at the Airports Council International - North America (ACI-NA) 2024 Annual Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The advancement highlights SJC’s commitment to sustainability, aligned with the Climate Smart San José initiative, which aims to safeguard the region’s long-term environmental and socioeconomic future. Since first receiving Level 1 accreditation in 2021, SJC has made consistent strides in reducing its carbon footprint through energy-efficient upgrades and sustainable practices.

In addition to transitioning to 100% renewable energy in 2022, SJC’s achievements include the introduction of a zero-emission electric bus fleet, installation of a 3.4-acre solar PV farm, and the implementation of a smart Building Management System that optimizes energy use. Looking ahead, SJC plans to achieve Level 3 accreditation by 2026 and Level 3+ by 2029, continuing its dedication to environmental stewardship. “This is a major milestone toward our carbon reduction goals,” said Mookie Patel, SJC’s Director of Aviation. As the airport celebrates 75 years of service in 2024, these efforts ensure a sustainable future for Silicon Valley’s gateway to the world.

San Jose is now ranked the most expensive city in the United States to live, and therefore to work. The cost of housing is the core driver of our increasing homeless population. It causes the question of “will be my children be able to afford living here?” This problem threatens the health of our economy and the vibrancy of our communities. Building more, dense housing is part of the solution, but the affordability of that housing is key. Why is that so critical? Register today for this event presented by SV@Home and sponsored by Core Builders: https://web.sjchamber.com/ap/Events/Register/YEFkxGofNCzCK
