Team HOPE - 2024

We are excited to share stories from our recent service trip, Team HOPE, where our dedicated volunteers and medical professionals worked tirelessly to bring life-changing solutions to families in need. These stories testify to the power of collaboration, compassion, and hope.

Impacting Health

Ángel Camilo, now two years old, has faced a challenging start to life. Since birth, he suffered from chronic eye inflammation and discomfort, worrying his parents deeply. Despite multiple visits to local doctors, Ángel’s condition persisted, and even prescribed treatments failed to provide relief.

Determined to find a solution, Ángel’s parents sought the expertise of various specialists. Finally, after extensive consultations, the root of the issue was uncovered: Ángel had a blocked tear duct that could only be resolved with surgery. Although this discovery brought relief, their hopes were dashed by the exorbitant cost of the surgery, which could only be done in the capital—far from their rural home and financial reach.

For two years, Ángel’s parents fought for their son, driven by love and an unyielding hope for his health. Their persistence paid off when, thanks to the compassionate efforts of our incredible volunteers and medical team during this mission trip, Ángel received the surgery he desperately needed. The result? Instant relief for little Ángel, and a world of hope for his future.

Impacting Education

In September, a significant month for Guatemala, as it celebrates its Indepence, our amazing McGyvers made great improvements at El Molino School by building a new pathway. This came just in time for several civic ceremonies, including the national anthem. In this special moment captured in the photo, our teams stood proudly, paying their respects, with the Guatemalan flag waving beautifully in the background. The timing couldn't have been more perfect!

What made this year even more special was that, after spending their day installing stoves, several of the Stovers joined the McGyvers in the afternoon to lend a hand. Their help was crucial in ensuring everything was done on time and having them around made the experience even more fun. This shared effort truly embodies the spirit of collaboration that drives our mission forward.

We're so grateful for the impact this project has on the students and community.

Impacting Homes

Our work in Xeatzan Bajo has been a journey of hope, community, and transformation. Over six visits, we worked to improve the health and safety of families by installing smoke-free stoves and water filters, ensuring that every household in need was cared for. The final day of this mission was filled with gratitude and joy, as the 136 families we worked with gathered to celebrate with us the completion of these life-changing improvements. Together, we improved more than homes—we strengthened lasting bonds of hope.
