Hometown Rod Carew, Hall of Famer,
Keynote Speaker at Anaheim Mayor's Prayer Breakfast
The main ballroom at the Westin Anaheim Resort was full as the Anaheim Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast returned, with former Angel and baseball great Rod Carew as the featured speaker. Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu welcomed the early morning crowd of elected officials, business and civic leaders, and residents to the return of the annual fall event after a pandemic-induced hiatus. Sidhu spoke about how our faith communities sustained our body and soul during the trials of the pandemic and spoke about his own Sikh faith and its commonalities with other faith communities: equality before God, religious freedom, and giving back to the community.

Rod Carew spoke movingly about overcoming enormous obstacles such as horribly abusive home life as a child and long, nearly fatal encounter with heart failure through faith in God – whom the batting legend said was “always in my back pocket” and led him to an amazing life.

“Don’t ever let anyone tell you what you can’t do,” said Carew, urging the audience to put their faith in God and His plan for them.

Brewery X Biergarten at the Honda Center Grand Opening
The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting last Thursday, October 21 welcoming the Brewery X Biergarten to the Honda Center.
The popular Anaheim craft brewery’s partnership includes the naming rights of the Honda Center’s 15,000-square-foot, indoor-outdoor dining space along with two new Anaheim Ducks branded beers.

Located on the club level, Brewery X Biergarten, features an enhanced food and beverage menu, including Brewery X beers on tap. This one-of-a-kind space is membership-based for Anaheim Ducks games and open to all ticket holders for select concerts and events.

“The Anaheim Ducks and Honda Center are thrilled to partner with Brewery X,” said Graham Siderius, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Anaheim Ducks, via a press statement. “They care deeply about the local community as an Anaheim-based brewery. Paired with their intense focus on high-quality products and enjoyable guest experiences, it created a wonderful opportunity for a partnership. We look forward to working together with Brewery X to create a fantastic guest experience at the Brewery X Biergarten on-site at Honda Center.”

Don’t wait too long to get a Christmas tree this year. Supplies are tight and prices are up. And you may have a hard time finding the tree you really want. Coalition Urges Congress to Reject Tax Increases
on Businesses to Pay for Reconciliation Package
IRS_desk.jpg
Last week, the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce joined 75 other California business groups, led by the California Chamber of Commerce, in opposition to tax increases on both large and small businesses in the federal $3.5 trillion reconciliation package. These taxes will harm U.S. and California businesses of all sizes, which are already vulnerable as they recover from the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of these federal taxes are proposed on pass-through businesses (one of the most common ways small businesses are taxed), including a cap on the qualified business income (QBI) deduction (199A deduction) and expanding the 3.8% Net Investment Income Tax to all forms of business income. The package also proposes increased taxes on natural gas and electricity, higher capital gains taxes, and increased corporate taxes. The coalition urged all of California's members of the U.S. Congress to oppose the tax increases.
