Message from the CEO
Dr Louise Schaper
Nurses and midwives on the innovation forefront: When it comes to digital health and entrepreneurship, today’s nursing and midwifery innovators say they are looking for workplaces to embrace change. This group of healthcare professionals is often in the best position to understand firsthand the care experience and delivery process. Nurse innovators say every day they see opportunities for improvement. One of those telling the stories of nursing and midwifery change agents is podcaster and NI 2021 guest speaker Shawna Butler RN. She presents the podcast See You Now which she says shines a light on the real people changing the status quo in healthcare. Shawna is a nurse economist and health tech specialist and we’re looking forward to hearing her present on the global stage at NI2021 on 26 August. Innovation and entrepreneurship is being discussed by our Nursing.Midwifery Community of Practice in various forums this month, particularly in the context of COVID and the opportunities that have emerged in healthcare. The community is discussing nurse-led innovation, the importance of innovation champions and getting started as an entrepreneur! Be inspired and take part in the conversation by logging into the Nursing.Midwifery community group on SocialLink.

There is still so much more to do as we further infuse digital into how care is delivered. Some big questions are being asked: How do we continue this momentum? What do we really mean by personalised patient experience? What role will consumers play in driving the interaction with their healthcare providers? What is the value being created through data-driven insights to reshape policy and service delivery?
