Do you have a robot collecting dust that you're not sure what to do with? Or maybe your robot just isn't behaving quite the way you'd wish? As the students in Peabody's Robotics class are discovering, one of the lovely things about robots is that with just a little bit of knowledge, even a 5th or 6th grader can get one to do almost exactly what one wishes. In partnership with Ms. FitzHenry, last year's remote learning coordinator, and Birdbrain Technologies, Mr. Haske has begun guiding a robotics class of ten 5th & 6th graders through the process of discovering and figuring out how to program software on a laptop computer to control the actions of a cute palm-sized robot scooting around the new ENIAC-6 Laboratory. Although this week was only their second session of the class, these students are already deeply immersed in applying the logic, problem-solving skills, and indeed even perspective-taking that these kinds of interfaces require. Thanks to Ms. FitzHenry and to Mr. Haske for envisioning and facilitating this STEMulating experience!
