Dear 9th Grade Parents and Guardians,
This fall, New Jersey public schools are once again required to issue several tests called the Start Strong Assessments. These tests will satisfy the federal statewide assessment requirement to administer general assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. They are based on a subset of prioritized prior-year academic standards.
The state has recently extended the window that districts are able to administer these assessments. PRHS will be taking advantage of this extension and we have made updates to the days the Start Strong tests will be administered. We will now be giving the tests to the 9th grade based on the following Schedule:
Friday, September 30: Science
Monday, October 3: English Language Arts
Tuesday, October 4: Mathematics
On Friday, September 30th, the Science assessment will be given during the normal school day. No special schedule will be required.
On Monday and Tuesday, October 3rd and 4th, students in grade 9 will report to school at the regularly scheduled time (7:45 am) and go directly to their testing rooms. The Start Strong assessments will take place from 7:50 am to approximately 9:15 am. All classes will meet on an abbreviated schedule following testing. The school day will finish as usual at 2:44 pm. A period-by-period schedule can be found HERE
Based on direction from the New Jersey Department of Education, participation in the Start Strong assessments is expected of all students in the 9th grade at Park Ridge Jr./Sr. High School. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. We look forward to gathering data from this specific assessment and will be sure to inform you of your child’s results when they are released by the state.
Sincerely,
Troy Lederman
Principal, Park Ridge Jr./Sr. High School
