Hi, Mia!

Today is the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 - October 15. It's a month when we celebrate and recognize histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans.

Why a mid-month start? September 15 is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile's independence days follow on September 16 and 18. Also falling within this monthlong range is Dia de la Raza, celebrated on October 12, a day of recognition to honor the people, traditions, and cultures that were destroyed due to European colonization.

Having raised my family in AD-52 for 16 years, I love that we are surrounded and embraced by the warmth of the diverse cultures around us. In the Assembly, I will be a fierce ally of our LatinX community and fight to begin the process of healing from the wounds of colonization.

New Endorsement Announcements!

Safer CA

I am thrilled to announce we received a Priority Endorsement from Safer CA, an organization dedicated to supporting gun sense champions from school boards to US Congress. We know that gun safety saves lives, and I'm incredibly proud to receive their Priority Endorsement.

ILWU Local 56, Ship Scalers

"ILWU Local 56, Ship Scalers are excited to endorse Mia Livas Porter for State Assembly. We trust that Mia will fight for working families and ensure we have social, labor, and environmental justice at the state and local levels. She will give a voice to the voiceless and her life experience proves she is ready to represent those often left out of the decision making process, especially on policies that impact senior citizens, victims of gun violence, and the environment."

LA School Board Member Scott Schmerelson

“I am proud to endorse Mia Livas Porter for state Assembly. She has proved her devotion to public education as a parent and advocate, supporting teachers and library aides, public health, and the funding we need for community schools to thrive. She is also a champion to protect students, educators, and families from gun violence. Angelenos will be well served, and we need her passion and compassion in our legislature.”

Field Team 6 Executive Director Jason Berlin

"I am SO excited that Mia is running! She is a true grassroots super-organizer with a gigantic heart. She has the courage to tackle intractable problems and the creativity to solve them. She is exactly the leader we need!"

If you'd like to join our growing list of endorsements, we'd love to hear from you!

In solidarity,

We're Looking for Hosts!

Last week, we put the fun in FUNdraising when super-supporters Dan, Dav, Carniece, and Aaron graciously hosted a variety show fundraiser in Elysian Valley for our campaign. In the image here, that's me singing, my husband on guitar, and my son on keyboard. You can see more from the event on Instagram >>

We had so much fun and raised some good funds at the same time - so we'd love to do something like this again! If you have an event space and/or the time to organize a fundraiser or House Party, we'd love to chat!
