Dear Columbus Academy Families,

Over the next nine days, there are several large events happening on campus for which we need to make you aware and, in some cases, provide instructions. At times when traffic is heavy and parking is difficult, please be understanding and courteous to each other and to our staff, who will be doing their best to make things go as smoothly as possible.

September 16

Tomorrow, our dining hall will be hosting a Breakfast with Business First, a monthly networking event that could bring up to 100-150 local business people to our campus between 7:00-9:00 a.m. Since this will coincide with morning dropoff, we are taking steps to reduce the potential disruption as much as we can, including not marking any students as tardy that morning and directing our faculty/staff and older students to park in places they might not normally park. If you are coming to campus, please consider arriving earlier than normal that day (students may be dropped off as early as 7:00 a.m.), especially if you need to be somewhere else at a specific time after dropoff.

September 17

Saturday morning, our campus will be hosting 13 other schools at a cross country invitational that begins with middle school contests at 9:00 a.m. followed by the high-schoolers, who will all cross our main drive during their races. Therefore, traffic at our main entrance will be restricted at times throughout the morning. If you are coming to campus (we will also be hosting JV football and MS volleyball competitions that morning), you may want to consider using the Beecher Road entrance.

September 19-21

This year’s school photos will be taken on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Tentatively, all lower-schoolers will have their pictures taken during the morning of either Monday or Tuesday (view schedule). All other students will have times dedicated for this on the afternoons of Monday and Tuesday or on Wednesday, most likely during their advisory, lunch/recess or flex periods. All ordering will be online, and a password-protected link will be shared when the images have been uploaded.

Next Saturday, we will be hosting the sixth annual Viking Rampage Run alongside many Alumni Weekend activities (see schedule). This is an event for all families, and you can bring friends as well. All participants should check in at 9:00 a.m. near the middle school playground next to Hondros Field. If you would like to participate, please register by clicking here and know that you will get muddy and wet (view last year’s photos), so please wear old shoes and clothes to this event. You may also want to bring a complete change of clothes in case you decide to stick around afterward for Academy sports games and the annual HOLA Tailgate that will begin at 11:00 a.m. next to the Hondros Field home stands.

The HOLA Tailgate is part of our community’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins today. To view coverage of a recent HOLA event featuring Academy parent Dr. Orlay Alonso and COSI’s exhibit on Cuba, click here. “Here at CA, we celebrate, connect and create opportunities to build community throughout campus,” says Director of Student Outreach Pedro Mena, who organized the outing. “We invite you to celebrate, connect and build community this month and the months ahead… ¡Vamos!”
