ADULT BIBLE STUDY STARTS OCT. 13

“THE DIFFICULT WORDS OF JESUS”
A Beginners Guide to His Most Perplexing Teachings

Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School and College of Arts and Sciences provides us with a Participant’s Study Book and Six DVD lectures. We will provide the discussion and personal opportunity to further develop our Christian faith. Pastor Larry will lead the class. Our Mission Endowment Fund makes these materials available for our use.

Sometimes Jesus spoke words that followers then and now have found difficult. He instructs disciples to hate members of their own families, to act as if they were slaves, and to sell their belongings and give to the poor. He speaks of damnation and calls Jews the devil’s children. How might we interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation?

This six-week study will begin on Wednesday, October 13th and conclude Wednesday, November 17th. Each session is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

DAILY PRAYER
VENTURES
The ELCA offers daily Prayer Ventures, which may be found on their website, https://www.elca.org/en/Resources/Prayer-Ventures. The prayers for this weekend are below. Visit the website if you would like to follow the daily prayers!

8 We should be humbled to know that God has crowned us with glory and honor, especially given how insignificant we seem in the vastness of God’s creation. Give praise and thanks to God!

9 Pray for the planning team of the 2022 Multicultural Youth Leadership Event, which precedes the ELCA Youth Gathering and focuses on youth of color. Ask God to nurture an inclusive, Spirit-inspired community, that we might celebrate our cultures together in the church, embodying equity, diversity, mutuality and oneness in Christ.

10 Pray that the Word of God, example of Jesus and work of the Spirit will inspire, equip and guide us to be service-minded disciples bearing faith, hope, justice, peace and love into the world.
