A Letter to Our Partners

Greetings Partners,

We have been incessant in our efforts to connect our Prince George’s County community with available resources to gain meaningful employment. We have also made significant strides to connect our businesses with knowledgeable and qualified job seekers. Through this partnership, we have produced a variety of resources to share with the residents of Prince George’s county to assist them in reaching their educational and career goals.

The determination and perseverance to assist our community and ensure each resident has the opportunity to succeed is remarkable. We must remain insistent and committed to the ongoing work that is required of a Workforce Development Professional.

Thank you for the unwavering support of this partnership along with your commitment to our community. Thank you for your initiative and confidence in the values of our partnership. Thank you for your continued collaboration to ensure our community has access to all resources available.

“Collaboration allows us to know more than we are capable of knowing

by ourselves” – Paul Solarz

Sincerely,

HELP RAISE AWARENESS FOR

NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH

National Recovery Month was started in 1989 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Their goal was to raise awareness of substance and mental health abuse, while also celebrating the success stories of the survivors, to show that living in recovery is possible. During the month of September they also promote new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices.

Every year, SAMHSA would select a new theme to highlight an area of focus and create a toolkit  for different organizations use, which catered to that particular theme. However, this year SAMSHA has decided to retire the yearly theme and adopt the permanent theme of " Every Person. Every Family. Every Community."

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

This month we shine our light on our Make Smart Cool Partner.

Thank you for all you do to assist our youth in changing how they think of education and inspiring them to achieve their largest goals.

MakeSmartCool, Inc. was founded in 2013 by Photographer and Entrepreneur, Anthony Tilghman. The organization became a Non-Profit 501(c)(3), on January 4th 2017. The goal of the organization is to motivate and empower Youth, Parents, Teachers and the community to #MakeSmartCool and revolutionize how young people think about education in addition to showing them ways to avoid the pitfalls that a lack of education may cause.

Anthony Tilghman is an Award-Winning photographer of the 2020, 2021 & 2022 Dateline Awards by the DC Chapter of Professional Journalists photographer, Education advocate, Mentor, and Published Author with years of experience in media, photography, marketing and branding. He is also the chair for the Prince George’s County Education roundtable and through his work, Anthony Tilghman continues to live out his dreams every day. He has Published 4 Children’s Books and his recent children’s book Titled “Black Male, Black Hoodie"" which teaches the impact of social injustice.

MakeSmartCool, Inc empowers our Youth, Parents, Teachers and Community to be visionaries and advocates of effective educational methods and learning experiences. MakeSmartCool’s mission is to revolutionize how young people think about education, in addition to showing them ways to avoid dangerous pitfalls that a lack of education may cause.

Due to the socioeconomic challenges of numerous communities , which ultimately affect our young people today, education can easily become a second priority to a family’s survival and financial needs.

However, our organization works tirelessly to enact change, by showing children that with tailored, engaging education, anything is possible. The sky really is the limit!

Additionally, MakeSmartCool, Inc motivates our youth to stay off the streets, and stay in the classrooms – where there is a ‘whole wide world’ of information just waiting to embrace them, support them, and guide them to a flourishing life. We recognize that many of our youth today, are looking for a way to be more prosperous than their current environment. MakeSmartCool, Inc helps students connect success to their knowledge base – because we know that a better future truly begins with quality education.
