SuperLeader Day

Students at Harrison Elementary welcomed family, friends, and community leaders to SuperLeader Day this past Thursday. Throughout the day, students presented about leadership and the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. They also highlighted how they show leadership at Harrison, how they use leadership portfolios to track their learning, and about various research and service projects they have been working on.

Superstar Olympics Hits the Track

Middle school athletes from across the district gathered at Mt. Mercy University’s Athletic Complex on Thursday for the first-ever “Superstar Olympics.” One hundred students showed off their skills in various track and field events.

This is the first year for Superstar Olympics, which was the brainchild of several Franklin Middle School staff members. Inspired after volunteering at a Special Olympics competition last year, they started brainstorming ideas for what they could do to better fit the needs of the diverse students they have at Franklin and across the middle schools at CRCSD.

“This isn’t an event that was previously offered, but we hope that our efforts are the start of just another way to embrace all students who make this school district so special with equal opportunities for extracurricular sports and activities.“ shares Ben Either, an Engagement Specialist at Franklin Middle School.

The Cedar Rapids Community School Foundation is a proud sponsor of the event, along with several local businesses.

“Hearing the cheers and seeing the smiles today made it all worth it,” adds Ben.

The hope is that the Superstar Olympics will become an annual tradition.

United Day of Caring

Thursday, May 11th, several CRCSD employees participated in the United Way’s Day of Caring. Day of Caring is held annually each May and is one of the largest organized volunteer events in the Cedar Rapids area. Local companies and their employees volunteer at nonprofit agencies throughout the community to help them tackle meaningful projects that address client, community, and agency needs. This year, the district’s employees helped clean Meals on Wheels and NTS vehicles at Horizons, spruced up the Freedom Foundation’s patio, and distributed posters for the Riverview Center.

Family Survey - Input Needed

As we continue our journey of strengthening our school by creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students, family feedback remains key in this process. Please take the time to answer a few questions about your experience with the Cedar Rapids Community School District. We value your input. The feedback will provide us with a wider lens to help identify the district’s strengths, as well as opportunities for growth within our school buildings and throughout the community. The survey will be available through May 26th.
