Get Ready to Get Spooked! *
Spooky Symphony is back for its 12th year and once again it will be held in person at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium on Sunday, October 24, at 4 p.m. Bring your kids and dress up as you enjoy performances of the most beautiful scary music ever written. The Children’s Trust is sponsoring the event featuring The Alhambra Orchestra and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony.

Good news! The Training Expectations lists have been revised and are available on The Children's Trust Training webpage: There are additional trainings and changes to requirements so please read the introduction paragraph and always make sure you are referencing the most up-to-date list (August 2021).

Getting Fathers to be Involved in Parenting Programs
Involving fathers in parenting programs has positive effects on children’s learning and social-emotional development. However, in some instances, it can be difficult to recruit fathers or father figures into services and keep them engaged. In this course, you will learn about diverse family structures, including the importance of using an inclusive definition of "father"’ You will also learn practical strategies to recruit, engage, support and retain fathers and father figures in services.

This online training course is available on Trust Academy and is appropriate for family service direct program staff and administrators.

Communities of Practice for Parenting Program providers are back up and running! Join a community where members support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. All of the following CoPs are currently being offered virtually and are appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Parenting Programs. If you have any questions or would like additional support, please contact teamcoach@miami.edu.

We know that this uncertain time may be challenging and overwhelming for providers. We believe that, as a community, we have the strength to support one another. During this time, our CoPs will contain extra discussion surrounding COVID-19 and the impact it’s having on your programs, relationships with families, etc.

Parent and Provider Stressors & Barriers - This CoP will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. In this CoP, we will discuss the stressors and barriers that both you as a provider, and the families you serve, face. We will also be identifying solutions, practicing these strategies and discussing the implementation of them into your practice. Click here to sign up or log in to Trust Academy!

Creating Support Networks & Community Outreach/Recruitment - This CoP will be held on the first Thursday of each month from 10-11 a.m. In this CoP, we will work collaboratively to create networks of outreach and referrals across parenting providers in the community and discuss program recruitment strategies. You will have the opportunity to get to know other community providers, share information, and support one another. Virtual recruitment will be an ongoing topic. The Advocacy Network on Disabilities Training Opportunities
Looking for on-site training? Contact your Inclusion Specialist or Pat Donovan at pdonovan@advocacynetwork.org to schedule a training at your site for up to 20 participants. We are currently offering the following two on-site trainings:

Count Me In: Discovering Inclusion for Kids -learn fun, meaningful activities to do with your students to build their disability awareness, and encourage them to appreciate differences. This training helps develop Social-Emotional Skills for children.

Structures for Success - Youth both with and without disabilities can behave in challenging ways. Learn the seven basic needs youth exhibit and take away strategies for meeting these needs through positive, preventive approaches. This training is especially relevant to YEN and YAS Providers.

FREE Workshop to Learn About the Fundamentals of Racial Equity *
The Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida presents a workshop for participants to learn about the fundamentals of racial equity. The event will go over how systemic issues manifest within our sector and organizations, and how to mobilize resources to catalyze change. Regardless of the size, mission area, or previous training, this summit is suitable for all organizations and all roles, including board members and staff.

Summit takeaways include:
  • Establish a common language related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
  • Learn about the social and historical context behind current systems of power, privilege, and oppression

Family Day at the Underline, The Art of Nature *
Bring the whole family to explore nature through interactive art, dance, music, and storytelling classes at Art of Nature, part of Family Day at The Underline! There are two programs and four class time slots each Saturday to choose from, take one or all of the 30-minute activities from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday, October 16 at the Brickell Backyard Promenade, on SW 1 Ave between SW 10 and 8 Streets.
Family Day at the Underline, Building Blocks *
Building Blocks is back as part of Family Day at The Underline! This pop-up life-sized Lego-esque playground will be available to play every third Saturday of the month starting October 16, from 2-4 p.m. at the Brickell Backyard Urban Gym on SW 1 Ave between SW 8 and SW 7 streets. The event is free but registration is required.
Free Financial Literacy Class Giving $5 for High Schoolers and Young Adults
Student Finance League is hosting free financial literacy classes and compensates $5 per class per participant. Ages high school through adult and in Miami. This is available to any organization, nonprofit, shelter, school, etc.

Available Mental Health Services for Low-Income Families *
The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including Individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami-Dade County. The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. ICFH also provides individual/family therapy and psychiatry services for adults who have Medicaid.

Special Projects Manager at The Children's Trust *
The Special Projects Manager is a critical member of both cross- and inter-departmental teams at The Children’s Trust who engages in strategic planning, proactive problem-solving and critical thinking/analysis related to the design, coordination, and implementation of organizational projects. Primary responsibilities include utilizing and implementing change management, project management and business process management disciplines for successful on-budget and on-time execution of organizational projects. 

Program Manager at The Children's Trust
The Program Manager is responsible for administering and monitoring contracts for various early childhood programs and services throughout Miami-Dade County that are funded by The Children's Trust. This position requires occasional non-traditional work hours (weekends and evenings). Background and experience in data analysis, process improvement and analytics is preferred.

The following duties are illustrative for this position: assist with the development and management of the bid solicitation process; monitor funded programs and services; participate in meetings and professional development activities; manage contract amendments and revisions; manage contract compliance; examines and uses data, processes and systems for organizational goals setting.
Associate Director of Programs at The Children's Trust
The Associate Director of Programs, working closely with the Chief Programs Officer, is responsible for leading assigned programmatic areas in the executing of our strategic investments and implementation of various programs. This leader will develop and implement strategies for fostering collaboration among internal and external stakeholders to ensure school-based health services are delivered in accordance with The Children’s Trust standards and the latest evidence-based practices. This internal-facing role oversees operations of the Kristi House Children’s Advocacy Center, working with 60+ staff members in six locations and Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) partner-agencies co-located within Kristi House. The position oversees HR, IT and overall day-to-day operations. In addition, the COO may assist with grant reporting and reporting to the Board of Directors.
 Fab Lab Miami Program Director at Key Biscayne Community Foundation *
