Special Notice: Service Drives Traffic Shift
& South Frontage Road Weekend Closure
TRAFFIC SHIFT ON SERVICE DRIVES ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 15

Beginning Tuesday, February 15th at 10 a.m., a significant change will occur on the Service Drives that provide access between Interstates 91 & 95 and the Air Rights & 100 College Street parking garages.

The North Service Drive will be closed to safely accommodate 101 College Street construction. While the North Service Drive is closed, the South Service Drive will be open and provide access between Interstates 91 & 95 and the Air Rights & 100 College Street parking garages.

The South Service Drive will be two-way, with one-lane for outbound traffic and one-lane for inbound traffic. This traffic pattern will remain in place until June 2023.

Signage will guide drivers through the new routes along the Service Drives and in the 100 College Street parking garage. Please pay attention to road signage, slow down, and stay safe!

Please see immediately below for a graphic that depicts the Service Drive shifts.
SOUTH FRONTAGE ROAD WEEKEND CLOSURE

Beginning tonight at 10 p.m., one block of South Frontage Road will be closed to motor vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists. This closure will occur on South Frontage Road between York and College Streets. The closure is necessary for public safety as a crane will be in use for work on 100 College Street.

After this weekend's closure this work is scheduled to occur for an additional two weekends. Weather permitting, the schedule for closures is as follows:

  • Friday, February 11 at 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Monday, February 14

  • Friday, February 18 at 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Monday, February 21

  •  Friday, February 25 at 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Monday, February 28

A simple detour will direct motor vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists around the closed portion of South Frontage Road.

Detour Route:

  • At the closed portion of South Frontage Road, turn left onto York Street

  • Right onto George Street

  • Right onto College Street

  • Left onto South Frontage Road

On-road signage will guide travelers through the detour route. A map of the detour is included immediately below.

No other significant changes to the existing traffic patterns are expected over the next week. Please see further below for detail on various single-lane closures that may occur over the next week.
Construction News through Friday, February 18, 2022
Other than the Service Drives traffic shift and the weekend closure of one block of South Frontage Road noted above, there will be no changes to the existing traffic pattern through Friday, February 18, 2022.

Various single-lane closures will occur to accommodate construction of 101 College Street and Downtown Crossing Phase 2 and are listed in more detail immediately below.

The temporary condition of no right-hand turns onto South Frontage Road from South Orange Street remains in place. A simple detour will guide drivers from State Street and Union Avenue to access South Frontage Road: right onto Columbus Avenue, right onto Church Street, and then right onto South Frontage Road.

This detour will not impact traffic already on South Frontage Road and heading to I91/I95.

The detour will only impact drivers who typically access South Frontage Road from South Orange Street, behind the New Haven police station and the Knights of Columbus printing press/supply building.

This detour will be in place until the new Orange Street intersection (across the former highway corridor) opens, which is anticipated to occur in approximately the next month and a half.

Please see graphics immediately below this text section for detour information.

LANE CLOSURES
Through Friday, February 18, 2022 various lane closures may occur on the following roads to accommodate construction:
