New Education Explainer:

Understanding the Importance of Passing Prop 402 & 486

As you prepare to vote this November, it's important to understand how Proposition 402 and Proposition 486 could impact our community colleges and the future of our state's workforce.

Key Highlights:

Propositions 402 & 486: These propositions propose updating the outdated Annual Expenditure Limit, a cap based on data from 1980 that restricts college spending despite available revenue, allowing colleges to use their current funds without raising taxes.

Importance of the Adjustment: Updating the Expenditure Limit will allow colleges to continue offering high-quality, affordable education without increasing taxes. If this adjustment is not approved, colleges will be forced to pay a large fine if the Expenditure Limit is exceeded or make drastic budget cuts. In the Maricopa County Community College District, this could mean cutting $100 million.

Role of Community Colleges: They offer accessible and affordable education, job training, and lifelong learning, which are vital for Arizona's growth.

Make Your Voice Heard: Vote “Yes” on Proposition 402 and Proposition 486 to support Arizona’s community colleges and workforce.
