THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE
REV. KAREN BUSH
Sunday, October 10 at 10:15 a.m. via Live-stream
On Sunday October 10 at 10:15 am come with our UUCUC Consulting Minister, Rev KB, as she takes us to the countryside to the farm and prairie where she grew up two miles south of Urbana.

With a panoramic view of the expansive western skies nearing sunset we will sit (virtually) in the tall prairie grasses with Rev KB as she shares inspirational stories of home, hope and challenge that will touch us all.

We hope you will come join us as together we journey to the prairie to ponder the meaning of home in a world full of those longing to go there.

Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud..

OUR CARING CONGREGATION
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, October 3, 2021.

From Brandy Barter-Storm: Sorrow for the 17-year old Centennial H.S. student who was shot and killed on Thursday night.

From Christine Cahill: It was a great joy to march with church friends and so many others at the Women’s March in support of Reproductive Rights yesterday.

From Christine Cahill: I am filled with incredible sorrow at the senseless killing of Jonathon McPhearson, the older brother of one of my students.

From Rev. Sally Fritsche: A joy for the birth this past Monday of James Alistair Dyer, firstborn of my childhood best friend Brianna!!

From Rev. Sally Fritsche: A sorrow for someone who I love very much, who just lost a wanted pregnancy when it was still too early to have told many people about it. Secret sadness is so much harder to hold, and my whole heart is with her.

From James Hannum: My cousin, Dan, is recovering from covid after 18 days in ICU while intubated. He is now awake and alert and in neurorehab. Our family is delighted that he is finally getting better.

From Ursulla Idleman: Deep sorrow for the death of Robert Idleman, father of Ursulla and Alexandra, spouse of Olga Pesovic (pronounced Pesh-oh-witch) Idleman. Deeper joy that his last days were wonderful, his passing was quick, and his pain is over. Dad will undoubtedly enjoy exploring The Next Great Mystery with the friends and family who preceded him in death, and giving those of us still alive a grand tour when we, too, pass on.

From Brian, Sylvia, Andrew, Lu Qing, Evan, and Tom McDermott: Please keep your good thoughts and healing prayers flowing toward our Mother and Grandmother, Christine McDermott, age 98, who fell yesterday and hit her head. She is currently in the hospital with a diagnosis of two fractures of her C1 vertebrae; we are waiting to hear the results of the neurosurgeon’s review of her tests.

From Emily McKown: I am overflowing with gratitude for my UUCUC family- what a privilege it is to be able to ‘zoom’ into seminary from the comfort of my Urbana home and stay connected with my church community. I am so thankful for Brian Franklin, the board, Lan Richart, Rev Florence, and Rev Sally for launching the fundraiser to offset some of my tuition costs. Thanks be to UUCUC for helping me hear the call to ministry, and I’m so glad I don’t have to make this journey alone. Sending my love!

From Francis Nolan: Please send healing energies to the extensive Nolan family. My brother Francis died in his sleep unexpectedly last week. He was my younger brother and a larger than life Irishman who was one of the first paramedics in Alaska.
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.organy time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

During the month of October 2021, we will support DREAAM House. DREAAM embraces and engages with DREAAMers as early as the age of 3 with the commitment to remain in their lives until they are 24. They work with children and young adults who need DREAAM the most. Some of them face tough odds, needing to overcome challenges such as school suspension, anger issues, parental incarceration, and low academic skills. However, where others see problems, DREAAM sees potential. They reach out to families, community organizations, churches, schools, and service providers to produce caring, outcome-driven services for children and young adults..
