Greetings!

Each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, nonprofits around the country participate in a
campaign (#GivingTuesday). Sowing Opportunities has done this in the past, and this year we are offering a slightly different vision: #GivingBack now.
Sowing Opportunities cultivates self-sustainability, education and well-being in indigenous villages in rural Guatemala, and this year our theme is #GivingBack, considering how indigenous people in Guatemala have suffered greatly under the hand of colonialism, most recently with the 36-year "civil war" in which 200,000, mostly unarmed Maya, were victims.
The theme #GivingBack supports action for universal healing. Our symbol for this campaign is "The Tree of Life."
Sowing Opportunitiesis developing agriculture to assist the village of Chajmaic, Guatemala in building, learning to cultivate, and maintaining a greenhouse for health and economic sustainability for their families.

Covid has prevented us from sending our expert agricultural engineer for now, but we are planning for him to travel there to oversee building and maintaining a greenhouse, when it is safe to do so.
For the upcoming month, we are requesting donations to deliver groceries to the entire village in two parts: (a) early November and (b) on Thanksgiving USA. The need is great and this provides options to donate now or later.

In 2020, $1.10 fed each person rice, beans, corn, and other provisions for two weeks. There are 3,000 people in the village. Therefore, our goal is to raise $3,000 for groceries on November 1st and another $3,000 for groceries on November 30th
If you donate $100, you will receive a pendant with the image of the Tree of Life from A Thread of Hope
which sells Guatemalan crafts through fair trade.
For those of us here in the U.S. who have many opportunities, this is an excellent opportunity to share directly with those in need. As always, Sowing Opportunities staff do not receive a percentage of donations. 100% of your donation goes to those in need.

Thank you for thinking of our neighbors in Guatemala during this time of Thanksgiving.
