A Christmas Carol Pageant

Rev. Jaimie Dingus & CYRE

10:45 a.m., Sunday, December 15th, 2024

Each year, the Children and Youth Religious Education Program puts on a Holiday pageant. This year we will retell Unitarian Charles Dicken's beloved classic, A Christmas Carol. Everyone has a role to play and a song to sing, so please join us!

This Sunday Events

Music News

The UUCH Choir is busy putting the finishing touches on music for our upcoming Solstice and Christmas Eve services. This year we’re observing the longest night of the year by singing The Peaceful Night (by UU composer Doris Clevenger,) Address to the Moon (with words by Nathaniel Hawthorne,) and Jul, Jul Strålande Jul (a Swedish carol.) On Christmas Eve, the choir will premier a new arrangement of All Through the Night and we will hear from guest vocalist, Amelia Adams. Music for the season!

Choir rehearsal this Sunday is at 12:10, after coffee hour.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

Holiday Service Readers

Each year, we gather to celebrate the Winter Solstice and Christmas Eve. Each of these services include a variety of readings and meditations. If you are interested in reading one of the readings during either of these services, please reach out to Rev. Jaimie!

And mark your calendars for Solstice on 12/21 at 7pm and Christmas Eve on 12/24 at 5:30pm. Happy Holidays!

Alabama Hispanic Association Dinner a Success!

The 10th annual Alabama Hispanic Association (AHA) dinner and Christmas party was a great success!

More than 40 UU volunteers contributed their time, food, and funds to host a great party for more than 100 disadvantaged Hispanic residents of North Alabama. UUCH provided a wonderful dinner, gift cards for the youth, and stuffed animals for the young children. Santa was there too!

Due to your generosity, we raised $3700 for gift cards for the youth! This was the most we have ever raised in support of the Hispanic youth!

Many thanks to all who contributed their time, energy, and funds to this event!

This Week in CYRE

This week's service is a multigenerational service, our annual Christmas pageant! There will be no rehearsal or costumes needed. Come ready to participate in A Christmas Carol!

UUSC's Guest At Your Table

UUCH is participating in the annual Guest At Your Table (GAYT) program sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC). The GAYT program has introduced generations of Unitarian Universalists to grassroots partners working for justice around the world with our support. This church year, we are celebrating Guest at Your Table’s 50th anniversary with the theme “Expanding the Welcome Table.”

Every family is encouraged to participate by placing a GAYT box at your dining table and then contributing to this guest at every meal. Please see the table in the Fellowship Hall to pick up your box (the “guest”) and some information about this year’s guests. Boxes can be returned to the church in January or contributions can be sent to UUSC directly.

If you have any questions, please email social.justice@uuch.org

UU Grief Support Group

The Grief Support Group will meet on the first Monday of each month in 2025. The meeting will be in the RE wing from 6-7 pm. Anyone who wants to attend but does not drive after dark, contact Melodie Brier at 256-468-5465. The care committee will arrange a ride for you. The group is open to anyone so feel free to invite people from outside our congregation. The group will support multiple kinds of losses and be a safe space to talk about beliefs that are not traditional Christian heaven and hell afterlife beliefs.

Habitat for Humanity Home Build

UUCH members and volunteers from other churches are making good progress at the Fazzingo/Turner house at 216 Lake Drive in Huntsville! Volunteers are taking a break this week while the sheetrock contractor is doing their work.

Your help is needed! Volunteers will be working at the site most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays depending on weather and subcontractor activity.

All volunteers must take a volunteer orientation class that is given virtually every week. The dates of the training vary, so please contact Brad at social.justice@uuch.org for the latest schedule.

If you have any questions or are interested in helping out, please email social.justice@uuch.org

Circle of Candles

Teri Thomas lit a candle of Sorrow: "On Thanksgiving, our beloved dog, Gracie, shed her old body and is chasing balls on the moon."

Zena Tucker lit a candle of Sorrow: "Prayers requested for my mother-in-law, Gloria Anne Tucker. She has chronic intense pain that has not been treatable and prevents her from resting."

Dan McKitrick lit a candle of Joy: "Dan McKitrick wishes to thank the UUCH care team and all his friends who have been so supportive of him and Tom during Tom's recent hospital stay. While Tom was in ICU the UUCH care team even provided treats to the nursing staff."

LaDawn Edwards lit a candle of Joy: "SO grateful for the friendship and assistance of Melodie Brier, in properly staging my home for (I hope) a quick, profitable sale. Her wisdom and compassion every step of my rookie year of widowhood has been a blessing beyond measure."

Little Food Pantry

Signups for the LFP have slowed to a trickle unless you are filling it without signing up in the signup genius. It’s hard to know. Our LFP is a much needed service to the neighborhood. Fill it with nutritious foods. Folks rarely take garbanzo beans or lentils (even though they are nutritious). Let’s try to keep the pantry going! Please, if you are able to fill it up, please note your name in the Genius. Also, you can bring non- perishables to church, as there are baskets. A big thank you to all who do contribute!
