September 06, 2022
From the Desk of Mr. Marty Van Hulle, Principal

SAL Parents:

In his homily this past Wednesday at our all-school mass, Father Tony talked about the importance of “retreating” or “pulling back.” Father Tony asked the congregation about the ways in which they attempted to reset when feeling overwhelmed. Among other items, responses included: listening to music, going to mass, exercising, reading, napping, and gardening.

The Labor Day Weekend provides us with a great opportunity to retreat and reset. The first few weeks of school can be exhausting given all that is going on and as new routines are established. As I pen this article on Friday morning, there is an eager excitement in the air as students and staff get the opportunity to take a much-needed breather.

Thank you to those who participated in Parents Night on Wednesday and Thursday. We appreciate your support and commitment to the success of your children.

A quick note about playground procedures. Earlier this week there was some confusion as to exactly which equipment the kids could use. To clarify, the only change from previous years is that students younger than second grade are not allowed to use the monkey bars and yellow parallel bars. This change came as a result of our insurance company conducting an audit and alerting us that coverage could not be provided if an injury occurred to one of our younger children. Otherwise, all other playground equipment and space is available to all students.

Given that this article won’t get into your hands until the Tuesday following the long weekend, I hope you had a great 3 days and had the opportunity to retreat and reset!

Take care,

M. Van Hulle
Principal, SAL

We wear our mission shirt every first Wednesday of the month. Please plan for your child(ren) to wear their shirt tomorrow, Wednesday, September 7th! Please remember that Mission Shirts are to be worn with uniform bottoms. Shorts should not be worn on mass days.

MAP Testing - This Week
Testing will take place throughout this week and next Monday. Your child’s teacher will let you know days/times for testing. Make sure students are well-rested and eat a good breakfast. Please do not schedule doctor/dentist appointments during testing time. It is important to have your child here on time. If your child is late and a test session has begun, your child will not be able to enter the classroom until the session is over. Thanks for your help!

Calendar Raffle
St. Anthony on the Lake School grades 5-8 will be selling Calendar Raffle tickets again this year for a fundraiser. This fundraiser allows each student to earn enough money ($1500) to go on the Washington D.C. trip during their 8th grade school year. The cost is $20 per Calendar Raffle, and the purchaser could win $25 - $500 during the course of a year – hopefully you found yourself or a family member a winner over this last year!

We will be selling calendar raffle tickets after Masses in the Gathering Space on the weekends of September 10/11 and September 24/25. Students in 5-8th grade can sign up here to sell tickets.
