LAKE TROUT DERBY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Saturday, May 27th - Monday, May 30th

The Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association, the Finger Lakes Institute, and SUNY ESF researchers are teaming up with the Lake Trout Derby for the second year to collect specimen for a study to better understand the health of the fishery in Seneca Lake.

We need approximately 25 volunteers this year to help at weigh-in stations, and collect fish samples (stomach, flesh, scales). The weigh-in stations are at Clute Park in Watkins Glen and Stivers Marina in Geneva.

Reviving the Crooked Lake Canal as a

Riparian Runoff Reduction Ecosystem

In the Spring of 2022, the Seneca Watershed Intermunicipal Organization (SWIO) introduced the Reviving the Crooked Lake Canal as a Riparian Runoff Reduction Ecosystem project. They are looking to repurpose remnants of the old canalway as wetlands to capture and treat stormwater flows. SWIO, Yates County Soil and Water, and Natural System Engineering worked to gather information and generate tools that can help develop a conceptual plan of exactly how to design such a system to meet their goals.
