Happy German Unity Day!
October 3rd is German Unity Day, which celebrates the anniversary of the official reunification of East and West Germany in 1990! Each year, a different city is home to the official ceremony commemorating the holiday. The slogan of this year's festivities in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt is "Shaping the Future Together."

For University Academics and Scientists
Research Stays

Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists offer one- to three-month grants to scholars in all academic disciplines at US and Canadian universities to pursue research in German universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories.
Application Deadline: October 15, 2021

For Former Scholarship Holders
Re-invitation Grants

Re-invitation Grants for Former Scholarship Holders offer one- to three-month grants to US and Canadian former holders of DAAD research grants/study scholarships greater than six months to return to Germany and support their short-term research.
Application deadline: October 15, 2021

Host a German Undergraduate Intern!
RISE Worldwide Internship Database

Are you a professor, a postdoc or a Ph.D. student at a research institute? Do you want to become a host for a German undergraduate intern? Researchers from accredited universities and non-profit research institutions can submit an internship offer for which German students from the fields of engineering, natural and earth sciences, medicine, computer science or related disciplines may apply. A successful applicant will receive a DAAD scholarship to carry out a research stay in your working group.
Deadline to submit internship offers: October 15, 2021

Research Grants
One-Year Grants

Research Grants – One-Year Grants (7-12 months) are awarded to highly qualified candidates who have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant supported research.
Application deadline: November 4, 2021

Research Grants
Short-Term Grants

Short-Term Research Grants are awarded for 1-6 months to highly qualified candidates who have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant supported research, or those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs).
Application deadline: November 4, 2021

Attend a Master's Degree Program in Germany
Study Scholarships

Highly qualified final year undergraduate students or those who have received an undergraduate degree of all disciplines may apply for the DAAD Study Scholarship for a full Master’s degree program at a German university or for study at a German university as part of a postgraduate or Master’s degree program completed in the home country.
Application deadline: November 4, 2021

Spend a Summer Studying in Germany
University Summer Course Grant

This program provides scholarships to attend a broad range of three- to four-week summer courses at German universities which focus mainly on German language and literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany. Extensive extracurricular programs complement and reinforce the core material.
Application deadline: December 1, 2021

New Funding Program
Konrad Zuse Schools of Excellence in AI

DAAD is expanding its range of funding opportunities relating to artificial intelligence. Under the new program, DAAD is supporting the establishment of three ‘Konrad Zuse Schools of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence’. The schools will aim to give a comprehensive boost to the education of outstanding young AI researchers at master’s degree and doctoral level in Germany. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, about 25 million EUR will be available under this innovative degree and doctoral program. Applications from university consortia are open from now until the end of October.

Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight
Dr. María Cecilia Barbetta is an Argentinian writer who received a DAAD Doctoral Scholarship from 1996–2000. "Writing in German makes me happy," she says. That is why the author wrote her first novel Änderungsschneiderei Los Milagros in German in 2008. Learn more about her work here!
