MOFFAT LOCAL HISTORY LIBRARIAN WINS
HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD
On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, an Awards Ceremony was held for Moffat Library Local History Librarian Matthew Thorenz at the Library
In June 2021 Arcadia Publishing & The History Press published Mr. Thorenz’s first book, “Images of America - Blooming Grove and Washingtonville.” Using photographs from Moffat Library’s archives and the collections of village and town historians as well as local residents, Mr. Thorenz tells the story of how our community was shaped. .
In recognition of his achievement, Mr. Thorenz was presented with two awards. The first was from the NSDAR (National Society Daughters of the American Revolution). Representatives of the Quaissaick Chapter of the NSDAR P. Jill Moore and Tammy Nosek presented Matthew with a Historic Preservation Recognition Award.

The second commendation came from Washingtonville Village Historian, Linda Standish, who awarded Mr. Thorenz with a Certificate of Achievement & Appreciation from the Village of Washingtonville for his contributions towards promoting the history of our area.

We invite anyone interested in the history of Blooming Grove to attend Mr. Thorenz’s presentation on Wednesday, October 20 @ 7 pm via zoom, where he will be doing a presentation on his new book at the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting. Call Moffat Library at: (845) 496-5483 for more information.

If you can’t make the presentation, check out some of his Throwback Thursday posts highlighting items of a local interest from the Moffat Library's collections via the Library Local History Blog (https://moffatlibrary.org/local-history/).
