MEET OUR REGION 5 PRESIDENT: ELMER GULLION

Meet Elmer Gullion, our beloved President of MNA Region 5! 💙 Elmer has been serving our community since 2018, always ready to help those in need and guide them towards the programs available at both the Region 5 office and MNA. As our representative, Elmer ensures that the voices and concerns of our Region 5 Metis citizens are heard in every decision-making process.

What Elmer loves most about his role is empowering the community to share their opinions, concerns, and voices. When he's not busy with his duties, Elmer enjoys fishing in the summer and trapping during the winter months.

Elmer is not only dedicated to our Region's Metis citizens, but 's also a devoted husband to his wife, Eliza, and together, they've celebrated 50 years of marriage – a true Metis role model couple!

Thank you, Elmer, for your unwavering dedication to our community. We're proud to have you as our President! 🤝

We are thrilled to introduce you to Hilda Lambert, the MNA Region 5 Vice President 💙 Since her election in September 2018, Hilda has been a strong advocate for the voices and concerns of our Region 5 Metis citizens.

As the Vice President of Region 5, Hilda works closely with her Region 5 Council to develop and create programs for the Region 5 Métis citizens. Once the programs have been created, she works with her team to apply for and secure funding to deliver these programs and services to our region.

Hilda's passion for community extends beyond her role as Vice President. In her free time, she loves getting involved in community events and activities that bring our Region 5 Metis citizens together. She particularly enjoys planning and coordinating events for our Region 5 Metis citizens with her council and team, as well as attending Metis gatherings and cultural events in our region.

April 14, 2023

We had a wonderful evening with the 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 of our Region! 💙♾️💙

There were plenty of stories, games, prizes, and fun to go around for all. Our co-hosts the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre were great to partner with and let us use their fantastic hall. We had special guests, Rocky Walker Band and the Edmonton Métis Dancers to bring traditional live entertainment to keep their toes tapping and hands clapping all throughout the night.

Thank you so much to our Elders for participating and allowing us to have a wonderful night to celebrate you.

Big thank you to our event donors for the fabulous door prizes for our Seniors. Lastly, a very warm thank you to the volunteers and teams that brought this whole event together. 👏💙

RIBBON SKIRT-MAKING

IN WABASCA

April 16, 2023

We wanted to share the excitement and finished creations from the recent 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮 event that we hosted last weekend! We had the pleasure of learning from the talented Rita Houle, who taught us the traditional art of making beautiful ribbon skirts.

We couldn't have asked for a better location than the Eagle Point Golf Course, where Region 5 team members and Métis community members came together to learn and create memories. We're so proud of the beautiful work we created and can't wait to wear our new skirts on our future journeys.

MAKING MOCCASINS

April 22, 2023

We are thrilled to share with you some highlights from our Moccasin Workshop, which was facilitated last weekend by Jennifer Anderson. Our goal was to help the younger generation connect to their Indigenous Métis heritage through traditional beading and sewing techniques. 💙♾️

Over the course of two days, our youth participants poured their hearts and souls into their moccasins, and we are so proud of all the hard work that they put in! We are grateful to Jennifer for sharing her knowledge and expertise with us and making this workshop possible.
