Important Updates
Let Michigan Kids Learn

The petition drive currently underway would place the issue before the legislature, which if passed, would not require the governor’s signature to become law. The effort to obtain signatures will be headed by Let Michigan Kids Learn, and a coalition of organizations including the Michigan Catholic Conference (MCC) and the Michigan Association of Non-public Schools (MANS).

EANS Update
The EANS I, Round III application went live for Michigan nonpublic schools on February 3, 2022 at 1:00pm.

This is the final opportunity to gain access to the remaining funds for EANS I. Although there is no limit any entity can request, MDE has established $100/pupil as a reasonable target for budgeting purposes. If you require more funding, please include that in your application and budget. MDE will review the applications and determine awarded amounts for each nonpublic school eligible applicant.

This is your time to:
  • Request adjustments for any unspent categories from Rounds I and II
  • Add in unforeseen vendor fees that we not budgeted for in Rounds I and II
  • Add items you may have missed like the MNSAA School Improvement Software and the 2022 MANS Conference and Expo.

Please refer to the MANS EANS spreadsheet here for language for your application.

The deadline to submit the application for EANS I, Round III is March 30, 2022. There will not be an extension to this deadline.

If you have questions, please email them to the Nonpublic Schools email address at MDE, found at Nonpublicschools@michigan.gov
School Safety Grant Program
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Office of School Safety is pleased to announce that applications for the Fiscal Year 2022 Competitive School Safety Grant Program (CSSGP) are now available here. The purpose of this grant is to improve the safety and security of students and staff through the purchase and installation of technology and equipment for school buildings or to upgrade hardening measures. Public schools, nonpublic schools, school districts, public school academies, and intermediate school districts are all eligible to apply.
Completed and signed applications (including all attachments) must be received, via email no later than 12:00 p.m. (noon) EDT on Thursday, March 24.

Questions about the CSSGP can be directed to MSP-SchoolSafety@michigan.gov.
Michigan's Earth Day Opportunities for Students
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) invites Michigan students to enter its Earth Day Poster Contest for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The submitted posters will be judged based on the "Michigan Native" theme and should include plants, wildlife, or ecosystems native to Michigan.

EGLE’s Environmental Service Award (ESA) competition is for students in 6th through 12th grade. Schools are invited to nominate a student or group of students to be recognized for completion of a school-sanctioned, environment-based project that has tangible results.

The deadline for both contests to submit entries is February 25, 2021.

MNSAA
MNSAA School Improvement Software - EANS Eligible
MNSAA is pleased to announce the launch of the MNSAA Accreditrac School Improvement Platform. The SIP platform integrates with Accreditrac and allows administrators to assess school improvement progress relative to mission, academic excellence, leadership, and operations following a self-study or annual report.

Administrative teams and data managers will use the platform throughout the year to develop and manage school improvement plans and acquire and organize data critical for assessing learning loss and organizational vitality. Each spring, the SIP platform will upload SIP activities into Accreditrac to streamline annual reporting.

Schools will be assessed a $1,000 fee for 2021-2022 and $1,000 for 2022-2023. The fee includes access to the platform, onboarding, development, and ongoing training and technical assistance. Following the initial onboarding years, schools will pay a small fee that will be rolled into annual fees. MNSAA schools are encouraged to include $2000 in their Round III application if you have not already. Invoices will be sent in February.

Please note that MNSAA schools that do not have access to EANS funds should contact Angelia to learn about access options.
MESC Professional Learning
MESC Professional Development Survey
The Michigan Equitable Service Collaborative (MESC) seeks input on the professional learning needs of Michigan’s non-public classroom educators and administrators.

The MESC was created to identify the professional development needs of non-public educators in the state and to coordinate training to address those needs. These opportunities are deeply discounted, offering your schools access to high quality training that won't break the professional development budget. This Title IIa funded program is managed by MANS with a committee comprised of diverse non-public school administrators from across the state.

Administrators are asked to complete this survey and to forward it to classroom educators in their building today.
