Saint Lawrence of Brindisi
|
|
Greetings! How are you today? On this twenty-first day of July I gave thanks to God for my wonderful Mom. Happy birthday, dearest Mum! As a Universal Church we are also grateful for the inspiring witness and prayerful intercession of St. Lawrence of Brindisi.
Interestingly, he was born and died on the same day of July 22nd after sixty years of life here on Earth. Though he was a native Italian, he was able to read and converse in “Latin, Hebrew, Greek, German, Bohemian, Spanish, and French” (franciscanmedia.org). His intellectual prowess was perhaps only matched by his pastoral zeal for those in his midst.
As a Franciscan priest he served a multitude of persons in Italy and around various parts of the world. For his great contributions to building up the Body of believers and explaining the mysteries of our Faith in a clear and comprehensible manner he was named a Doctor of the Church by Pope John XXIII (catholicculture.org). We ask for his ongoing prayers in our spiritual journey, regardless of our language, so that we would press onward and join him one day in the Heavenly Kingdom:

Collect Prayer for Mass on the
Optional Memorial of St. Lawrence of Brindisi
|
O God, who for the glory of your name and the salvation of souls bestowed on the Priest Saint Lawrence of Brindisi a spirit of counsel and fortitude, grant, we pray, that in the same spirit, we may know what must be done and, through his intercession, bring it to completion.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
