PepsiCo doubles down on reducing virgin plastic

The food and beverage giant plans to cut virgin plastic by 50 percent across its entire portfolio of products and increase the recycled content of plastic packaging to 50 percent.

In 11 European markets, PepsiCo is already working to move some products to 100 percent recycled PET packaging by 2022. In the U.S., the company wants to convert all Pepsi-branded products to 100 percent recycled plastic by 2030. In 2022, Pepsi Zero Sugar will be the first sold in 100 percent rPET bottles, according to the press release..

ISRI Testimony Spotlights Essential Role of Recycling in Truly Circular Economy

TThe Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) today testified before the United States Senate Environment and Public Works Committee as part of a Committee hearing titled “The Circular Economy as a Concept for Creating a More Sustainable Future.”

ISRI Chief Lobbyist Billy Johnson presented the pivotal role of the industry in a circular economy. Johnson highlighted interwoven segments of the recycling industry and what makes for successful recycling. Additionally, he discussed policy solutions such as strengthening domestic recycling and market development, education funding, as well as designing for recycling.

2021 Region 4 Sustainable Materials Management Grants
EPA Region 4 is announcing this grant competition and soliciting applications from eligible applicants that will improve community resilience and sustainability through sustainable materials management (SMM). Applicants must select at least one of the following technical assistance methods: research, investigation, experiments, education, training, studies and/or demonstration of innovative techniques. Applicants’ projects must take place within EPA Region 4, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Cards Recycling to develop transfer station in Springdale, Arkansas
Posted September 10, 2021 on waswtetodaymagazine.com Cards plans to spend $5 million on the 40,000-square-foot recycling transfer station, to be built in two phases. The first phase of the project would include the waste and recycling facility, a sorting room and a scale house, with eight employees. The new space would include consolidation of other offices, which should bring 30 new jobs to Springdale, AR. Tampa, FL clearing way for massive paper fiber plant
Posted September 24, 2021 on wtsp.com Celadon Development Corporation will receive bond funds from the city to fund a massive paper fiber manufacturing facility at Port Tampa Bay. Celadon plans to recycle paper products and then ship most of it to Asia. Approximately 300 jobs will be created. Read More
