Fall 2021
Welcome, Students!
Fall 2021 is certainly still not what we expected, however, the University Center for International Education (UCIE) is even more committed to your success. We are your home-away-from-home whether you are a new international student, a continuing student, or a student planning to go abroad. Know that UCIE is here to serve you!
You are the bravest of the brave. Not only have you made a decision to study in a different country to pursue your education, you have done so in the middle of a global pandemic. Your commitment to your future is admirable. Like the Wright Brothers, you are the innovators, the creators, and the entrepreneurs of our future. You represent the very best of Wright State and the world.
The staff of the UCIE are available in person or remotely and through email or by phone at 937-775-5745 Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. You may also join our various in person and virtual events and programming on-line this Fall Semester. Make sure you like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/WSU.UCIE.
We have done everything as an institution to keep you safe during this time and will continue to support you during your time at Wright State. Be proud of your accomplishments, but do not be afraid to reach out for help or just to talk to a friendly advocate in the UCIE. We are here for you and YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!
Have a wonderful start to this new academic year!
Sincerely,
|

Student Union Closure: What We Know
Wright State University experienced campus-wide power outages, building closures and class cancellations on Tuesday. After a full day of classes, many questions are still circulating about the extent of the damage and when students can expect the Student Union to reopen.
The Student Union is closed due to an electrical fire that occurred in the main electrical room resulting in water and smoke damage.
Officials have not released a timeframe to reopen the Student Union nor the damage’s extent.

OPT Application Submission
for Fall 2021
If you are an international student graduating in the Fall 2021 semester, you may start applying for OPT on September 12, 2021.
Please use this link to access and complete all required documents for the OPT application.
Choose an OPT start date between December 11, 2021 and February 8, 2022. The final date for Fall 2021 graduates to submit application materials for OPT is February 8, 2022.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have any reservations regarding graduation for Fall 2021 semester, please do not apply for OPT until after semester end grades have been posted.
|
|
Maintaining status on OPT is still the same as usual
You are permitted only 90 days of unemployment between the start and end dates on your EAD card. In addition, you are required to report the following information through the SEVP Portal while on OPT within 10 days from the change:
1. When you start a new job.
2. When you change addresses.
3. Periods of unemployment.
4. 6-month validation (You can email fei.yu@wright.edu after you update your employment information and residential address through SEVP Portal)
Can I travel back to my home country during OPT period?
Please be aware that if you are unemployed for more than 90 days, you will lose your OPT status. Also, during this uncertain time, we do not suggest international travel as there is no guarantee of open borders.
