Final Exam Week Reminders--COE DECAL and Guest Pass
Dear COE Students,
Beginning Sunday, December 4th, through the end of finals week, a security guard will be patrolling the engineering campus during the overnight hours.  Beginning Monday, December 5th, you must have a College of Engineering decal on your student ID card to be in the building during the overnight hours.  You may pick-up a decal anytime from the Office of Student Services located in Room B-111 from 9AM to 5PM, Monday to Friday.

We are also providing a limited number of Guest Passes which can be used for you to invite up-to two non-engineering students to study with you at the college. Guests must be accompanied by an engineering student with a valid COE ID decal. Guest passes are available from the Office of Student Services. If you have any questions, you may contact the Office of Student Services at studentsupport@eng.famu.fsu.edu, or call 850-410-6423.

Additional reminders while on campus after hours:

  • Students are permitted to study in all 3 breezeways, the Atrium, Library, or in the computer lab. Students may not use classrooms or offices to study in during the overnight and weekend hours.
  • Don’t forget to keep an eye on your belongings while you’re studying! We always see an increase in missing items around this time of year due to people walking away from their study area and leaving things behind, etc. Don’t take a chance on losing something valuable!
  • Please be courteous and clean up after yourselves. If you brought something with you into the building (papers, snacks, water bottles, etc.), make sure it leaves with you or is disposed of properly. If you bring pizza with you to study, please take empty pizza boxes out to the dumpster in the parking lot of Building B. As always, there is no food permitted in computer labs.
  • Alcohol is NOT permitted in the building at any time!

Don’t forget to check out the information regarding final exam schedule at
https://eng.famu.fsu.edu/students/final-exam-schedule. If you have a time conflict with another class, you must speak with your instructor ahead of time to reschedule your exam.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging updates from the Engineering DEI Advisory Council
Chair: Mahogany Newell; Vice-Chair: Barbara Twyman

Your Engineering DEI Advisory Council recently finalized the college’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Plan for 2022. This document outlines the main priorities and goals for the college leadership and items the council believes we should realize as an institution within the next three years. This plan was also submitted to the ASEE Diversity Recognition Program for consideration for a Silver-level award. The main points from the plan are:
  1. Increase understanding & application of DEIB concepts
  2. Build leadership accountability & incentive mechanisms
  3. Make DEIB part of the college culture
  4. Fix reciprocity problems
  5. Build student (& faculty) population representing parent universities
  6. Improve URM engineering student enrollment & outcomes

Within the plan, there are 5 items that the council will take the lead on accomplishing by December 2023:
  • DEI statement for college and centers
  • DEI-focused student organization
  • DEI annual report
  • Signature DEI event in Spring 2023
  • Share-outs & other DEI-focused events

For more information, to add your feedback, or to volunteer in this initiative, please contact Tisha Keller, DEI Advisory Council member and staff liaison for DEI.

Wings Over Water
As the glaciers retreated at the end of the last ice age, they left an astounding gift of connected rivers, lakes, and wetlands across the heartland of North America. Today, these largely unknown water highways remain an oasis for wildlife, from the herds of bison that still roam part of the Great Plains to the swaying grasslands, wildflowers, and vital honeybees that pollinate our crops and especially for the millions of magnificent birds that migrate along these “flyways.”

Wings Over Water, narrated by Michael Keaton, tells the compelling story of three amazing bird species—the Sandhill Crane, the Yellow Warbler and the Mallard Duck—with extraordinary footage of their fascinating behaviors. All of them depend on the wetlands for their survival.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje fight to protect the kingdom of Wakanda from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia and Everett Ross and forge a new path for their nation.
