Community Thanksgiving Dinner Served 280

The Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner was a success thanks to our sponsors, donors, and volunteers. The Community Thanksgiving Dinner returned to a sit-down event for the first time since the pandemic and served 280 people.

Thanks to all of our volunteers who helped and individuals who donated. This event would not have been possible without our 60 volunteers and all of our donors.

We would like to thank these organizations for their donations: Rotary, Ellensburg Pasta Company, Kittitas School District, The Palace, D&M, Kelleher, Red Horse Diner, Twin City Foods, and The Lunchbox.

Belonging In The Burg

The City's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission partnered with the Ellensburg School District, Central Washington University, and the Dispute Resolution Center of Yakima and Kittitas Counties to host Belonging In The Burg on November 19. Seventy people participated in a community-building conversation about belonging, what it means to belong, and what you have to give up to belong. Look for more events in 2023.

City Budget

The 2023-2024 Biennial Budget for the City of Ellensburg will go before the Ellensburg City Council on Monday, December 5 for final approval.

The budget reflects a financial plan to move us forward toward achieving the priorities and milestones in the Ellensburg City Council Strategic Vision 2023-2028 and goals identified in the City’s Comprehensive Plan. It allocates resources to a variety of programs necessary to protect the community, maintain the City’s infrastructure, and continue levels of service that our residents have come to expect.

Winter Reminders

Help our winter street crews by taking these steps when it’s expected to snow:

• Park vehicles in driveways or parking areas off main streets.

• If you don’t have a regular off-street parking area, consider moving your car when the road is scheduled for plowing.

• Please give our snow plow operators plenty of room when you see them out working.

• Maintain snow removal of your sidewalks and driveways on your property, not out into the street.

• Per City Code 5.40.140, it shall be the duty of the owner, occupant, or person having charge of any building, residence, premises or real property located within the city adjacent to or fronting upon any public sidewalk to remove or cause to be removed, by 9:00 a.m. on every day after snowfall, snow and ice from said sidewalks to their full improved width.

Snow Plow Information

The City of Ellensburg provides winter care for our roads. The City is divided into six plowing sections, and there are three priority levels that guide crew's work. First priority goes to primary arterials and streets which buses use to reach public schools. Second priority is secondary arterials and the downtown core area. All remaining streets are third priority. Under normal snowfall conditions, all roads within the City are plowed using the aforementioned priority basis.

Gas Meter Care

Check your gas meter during times of heavy snowfall and make sure it is clear and able to be seen. The meters have a regulator that needs to be able to vent and if covered can impede proper operation. When clearing a gas meter, please use a broom or do it by hand to avoid damaging or disturbing the meter.

Call the City Gas Division with any questions regarding winter meter care at 509-962-7124.

Waste Management Winter Access

After it snows, please ensure trash and recycling containers in alleys are accessible in order to allow Waste Management to service them. The area in front of the container must be free of snow and ice so the container can be rolled into the alley and returned after being emptied. It is the responsibility of the account holder to ensure reasonable and safe access to containers.

If you have questions about service or schedules, contact Waste Management directly at 509-925-9688.
