Synaptic and Network Dysfunction in a Mouse Model of Rett Syndrome
Associate Neurologist, Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology, Harvard Medical School

Susanna Mierau is a clinical neurologist and principal investigator in the BWH Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology. Her clinical specialization is in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related neurodevelopmental disorders. Her research focuses on synaptic and network-level deficits in mouse and human cellular models of Rett syndrome and ASD. She has a BSc in Brain & Cognitive Science from MIT, a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Oxford, and an MD from Harvard Medical School. She completed her neurology residency at Partners (Class of 2011) and a research and clinical fellowship in ASD at Boston Children's Hospital and the MGH Lurie Center for Autism, where she also served as a staff neurologist. Susanna recently returned to MGB from the University of Cambridge, where she started her own independent research group focused on the development of cortical network function at the cellular scale and how this is disrupted in mouse and human cellular models of ASD. Her goal is to use network function at the cellular scale as a platform for testing new therapeutic strategies for modulating cognitive function in neurodevelopmental disorders.
