September 29, 10:30 a.m. - CTE Collaborative: This month's session, Introduction to the K16 Education Collaborative, Engaging K12 in Ventura County, and Next Steps for Regional Representation, is open to our K12 partners.  The zoom link for recurring meetings is here.

September Update - K16 Education Collaborative: The Central Coast region is applying for the Planning Grant. The VCOE will continue to provide information and opportunities to engage in this Central Coast project. Learn more here


September 30: 2022-2023 CTEIG Applications are due. A recorded presentation on how to complete the application may be accessed here. Industry Spotlight:  STEM Careers @ Pt. Mugu & Port Hueneme

Naval Base Ventura County hosts an array of civilian jobs and they need our graduates! STEM careers typically pay living wages and provide for social and economic mobility for many of our students. Meet our local Navy STEM Coordinators Dr. Ramon Flores, Mark Campbell, and Angel Zamarron. These three offer opportunities spanning pre-k through the university level unique to their respective commands, NavSEA, NavFAC, and NavAIR.


NavSEA

Dr. Ramon Flores in his sixth year serving as the STEM Coordinator at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division. Dr. Flores is responsible for a STEM portfolio of initiatives, including career exploration events, internships, and scholarships for students interested in STEM majors. For the Pre-Engineering Program, Dr. Flores meets weekly with students from Santa Paula USD, Ventura USD, and Oxnard Union High School District.

NavFAC

Mr. Mark Campbell is the NAVFAC/EXWC STEM Manager and NAVFAC Federal Action Officer for Naval STEM. Mr. Campbell has worked in STEM in both the private and public sectors to also include higher education, and he is responsible for STEM portfolio initiatives including naval officer capstone projects. Mr. Campbell's focus is on internships, career exploration events, and scholarships for students interested in pursuing STEM naval careers. In addition, Mr. Campbell is also the Federal Action Officer for Naval STEM, in which role he advises Federal STEM initiatives.


Mr. Campbell is available to meet with students, organizations, professionals and groups weekly. Meetings may be held virtually or in person. NavAIR

Angel Zamarron is the Student Employment and STEM Outreach program manager for the Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division (NAWCWD), where she has served in this role since 2015. She is responsible for serving as the NAWCWD liaison to several CTE and STEM advisory committees as well as facilitating STEM outreach and education support in the Ventura and Kern Counties. Ms. Zamarron’s work facilitates meaningful connections between NAWCWD subject matter experts and local students and educators.
