Dear Families of the MS 104 Community:
Happy Wednesday! I hope this message finds everyone doing well.
Please see some announcements and updates below. Earlier this week, schools were informed that the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has issued an indoor masking RECOMMENDATION due to the high rate of flu and other respiratory conditions presently circulating across the city. The DOE is reiterating the guidance of NYCDOHMH and encouraging all students, staff, and visitors to wear a mask when in school. To be clear, this is NOT a requirement or mandate. The choice regarding mask wearing is a personal one. Please know that all students, staff, and visitors choices regarding this guidance will be respected in our school building.
The school has a supply of masks on hand. Anyone that would like a mask may request one at the security desk or in the main office.
In addition, I want to remind everyone that students that are not feeling well should stay home, and if experiencing COVID symptoms, get tested. This same guidance applies to staff members. COVID test kits will continue to be distributed as per the DOE policy.
I thank our entire community for working together to ensure the safest and healthiest school environment for our students and staff.

Report Card and I-Ready Report Distribution Today
Report cards for marking period one will be distributed to students tomorrow at the end of the day during homeroom. In addition to the report cards, we will be providing the performance reports from the first I-Ready assessments of the year for ELA and Math. These reports are not factored in to your child's report card grades but are another source of information regarding your child's academic progress.
Student report cards and I-Ready reports will be provided to students in special report card envelopes. We ask that a parent or guardian sign the report card envelope and have it returned to your child's homeroom teacher on Thursday. This will help us ensure that you have received the report card and I-Ready reports.
As per the school's grading policy, there is a timeframe of ONE WEEK for families to appeal a child's report card grade/s. Please see the 2022-23 Grading Policy here for details on submitting an appeal.
School Photo Proofs and Ordering Information
This week, students will be receiving their school photo proof sheet with ordering information for their school pictures. Your child receive a one sheet photo proof form which will include a proof of the image and information on how to purchase photos. The sheet will provide with families with the appropriate website to visit and the online code needed to make a purchase.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LAST TO SUBMIT AN ORDER IS MONDAY, JANUARY 9TH, 2023.
Yondr Pouch Reminder
We wanted to remind families and students that any student that has an electronic device must have it placed in a Yondr pouch upon entry to the building. Cell phones and other electronic devices identified in our school's cell phone policy may not be used during the school day.
If you child has lost or damaged their Yondr pouch, they must report to the cafeteria upon arrival to turn in their cell phone for the day. They will retrieve their phone at the end of the day in the main office. Students will continue to do this until a new pouch is issued to them.

Family Holiday Mixer on Monday, December 19th
A reminder to all families that we will be hosting our first ever Holiday Mixer on Monday, December 19th from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the school. All members of the community are invited to attend, free of charge. We will have holiday treats, beverages, and music, providing families an opportunity to mingle, get to know one another, and celebrate the holiday season.
While not required, families are encouraged to bring a peanut free holiday treat to share at the party.
In order for us to prepare accordingly, please RSVP using this form by Wednesday, December 14th. Please know that families can attend at any time between 3:30 and 5:30.

Volunteer for the BRRR-UCH Winter Celebration on Wednesday, December 21st!
I am excited to announce that our next celebratory student event, the BRRR-UCH Winter Celebration, will take place on Wednesday, December 21st! This will be an indoor event with each grade getting 90 minutes of fun in our cafeteria and gymnasium. There will be a DJ, two photo booths, tabletop games, arts and crafts, and a candy station!
As always, many adults are needed to make large events such as these happen. Volunteering at PTA sponsored events are as valuable a contribution as one can make to our school community. Without the requisite amount of volunteers, we will be unable to make available the full menu of activities we have planned for this event. We would greatly appreciate your support in volunteering for the BRRR-UCH celebration.

Winter Strings Concert on Thursday, December 15th!
Our first music concert of the year is scheduled for Thursday, December 15th at 5 PM! The concert will feature Mr. Klonowski's seventh and eighth grade strings students and the Chamber Orchestra.
All students and families are welcome and encouraged to attend this wonderful event.

¡Feliz miércoles! Espero que este mensaje encuentre a todos bien.
Consulte algunos anuncios y actualizaciones a continuación. A principios de esta semana, se informó a las escuelas que el Departamento de Salud e Higiene Mental de la Ciudad de Nueva York emitió una RECOMENDACIÓN de uso de mascarillas en interiores debido a la alta tasa de gripe y otras afecciones respiratorias que actualmente circulan por la ciudad. El DOE reitera la orientación de NYCDOHMH y alienta a todos los estudiantes, el personal y los visitantes a usar una máscara cuando estén en la escuela. Para ser claros, esto NO es un requisito o mandato. La elección con respecto al uso de máscaras es personal. Boletín de calificaciones y distribución de informes I-Ready hoy
Las boletas de calificaciones para el período de calificación uno se distribuirán a los estudiantes mañana al final del día durante el salón de clases. Además de las boletas de calificaciones, proporcionaremos los informes de rendimiento de las primeras evaluaciones I-Ready del año para ELA y Matemáticas.
