BLESSED BY THE BEST
Professional golfer, Gary Player, is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. As gifted as he is golfing, he is equally generous.

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming this golf legend along with his daughter Amanda Player. These two mission-minded leaders spent time visiting our campus, meeting our cottage parents and witnessing their compassion in action. Recently, their foundation the Gary & Vivienne Player Foundation, hosted an Ambassador Event in Pennsylvania raising $150,000 for Place of Hope!

Gary says, "...the greatest word that exists in our life is 'love.' How you can live without love is a great misery..." We are truly grateful for their incredible generosity.
MAKING THE BEST OF EACH MOMENT
We are grateful our campuses, cottages, children, families and staff were all spared from Hurricane Ian. Among standard preparations for such situations, one of our cottage moms got creative and made the best of being sheltered in place. With six kiddos home from school, she turned what could have been a frightful day, into a delightful day by making it a spa day! She had all of the goodies for the girls to have manis, pedis and facials. Our girls enjoyed a relaxing day and loved having this special treatment!
Some of our boys offered to help clean up our Paxson Campus after the storm passed. They said it was their way of giving back to our team! Cottage dad, Ken, is proud of his boys taking the initiative.
We are praying for all those impacted by Hurricane Ian. Though we cannot fathom the destruction and devastation left behind by this massive storm, we know our God is our refuge.

Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

LEO'S STORY OF HOPE
Leo, the oldest of three siblings came into care at Place of Hope in 2016 migrating from Guatemala. Trusting a family member to care for them, provide them a safe home and opportunity to attend school. They were instead forced into labor trafficking in Palm Beach County. These three kids feared for their lives for years until they were rescued and brought to Place of Hope. The only safe, stable, environment they ever knew was here. In school they faced challenges from peer pressure and unhealthy outside influences to working through their traumas, all while learning a new language, a new culture and a new way of life.

As a child in Guatemala, Leo would visit his cousin’s shop to watch him work on cars. He assisted with small tasks and discovered his affinity for cars. He knew he wanted to become a mechanic. During his senior year of high school as he was approaching 18 years old, he began planning to transition to our sister entity, Villages of Hope for aging out foster youth. The idea of graduating high school and going into a mechanics program was becoming a reality. Surrounded with healthy influences, guidance, and therapy Leo worked hard and earned his diploma. In 2021, he was a recipient of our Outstanding Youth of the Year.
Following his case plan, he transitioned to Villages of Hope and entered the Automotive Services Technology program at PBSC earning his certificate. After earning his certificate, he transitioned fully on his own moving out of state where he has family to start his career.
With the support of Place of Hope. I’ve been able to achieve my goals, and they’ve given me hope for a future. There was a time when I thought it was all over for me, that I would never achieve my objective, that I would never be able to continue a career as a mechanic, but then Place of Hope came in my life, and everything changed.
