Dear River Forest residents,
This coming Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our country, which serves as a somber reminder of all the lives lost on that fateful day. The days, weeks and months that followed did, however, provide a shining example of how our citizens and our country can come together in the midst of tragedy. While many events will take place to recognize and observe the anniversary of 9/11, the Village welcomes residents to join the Fire Department in recognizing a moment of silence on Saturday, September 11 at 7:45 a.m. at the flagpoles in front of Village Hall.
Additionally, the River Forest Police and Fire Departments will join a memorial event hosted by Concordia University this Friday, September 10. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Triangle Campus Quad, and visitors can look for the 2,977 flags that will be placed for the lives lost on 9/11.
Another bright spot related to this anniversary is the annual Charity LemonAid Stand fundraiser right here in River Forest that was founded in 2002 by a group of our residents and their children living on Bonnie Brae. Kids helping kids banded together to do something positive for the community while commemorating this day in our history. Since its founding, the group has raised more than $400K that has been donated to children’s charities that serve River Forest. This year’s event will take place this Saturday, September 11 from 3 - 7 p.m. in the 700 block of Bonnie Brae. The charities benefiting from this year’s event are Friends of the Children and Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society. The statewide indoor mask mandate continues to be in effect for all individuals ages 2 and over, regardless of vaccination status. Governor Pritzker’s office recently released this FAQ sheet on the face cover and vaccine requirements. Health officials are encouraging residents to consider becoming fully vaccinated in order to have the best line of defense against the virus and its variants.
Pre-scheduled and walk-in appointments are still available at several locations, and homebound suburban Cook County residents can learn more about how to receive the vaccine here. Traffic & Safety Commission Meeting |
The Village’s Traffic and Safety Commission will meet on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. The discussion will focus on solutions for the cut-through traffic in the northeast corner of the Village, which has been increasing as a result of recent construction projects and general congestion on surrounding streets. Residents are reminded that the second installment of the 2020 property tax bills are due Friday, October 1, and can now be viewed on the Cook County Treasurer's website. Cub Scout Pack 67
Cub Scout Pack 67 is excited to host a kickoff event Monday, September 13 at 6 p.m. at Keystone Park East (near the restrooms). The Pack, which will continue to meet in person outdoors, invites all families with children in grades K-5 to join them for another year of camping, hiking, outdoor cooking, Pinewood Derby and more! Did you know that last week, the Village’s monthly Enews was delivered in a new format? This new platform provides users with a number of easy ways to view the publication. For example, the bottom right portion of the viewing window offers a toggle to enlarge or decrease the size of the newsletter, as well as a bracket icon that allows for viewing in ‘full screen’ mode. Readers can also simply click the ‘download’ icon on the bottom left side of the viewing window, to read the content in a top-to-bottom version, rather than side-to-side.
