Chemung UMC to have last worship service before merger
On June 1, the Chemung United Methodist Church and Capron United Methodist Church will merge to be known as Capron United Methodist Church.
Pastor Jay Shin and the congregation of Chemung United Methodist Church invite everyone to celebrate Christ and their long legacy of ministry together in the community of Chemung at their final worship service on Sunday, May 28 at 1:00 at Chemung UMC (23814 IL-173, Harvard, IL 60033).

As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the armistice of the Korean War, the Korea Peace Reflections and Prayer will give Annual Conference members the opportunity to pray together for the armistice treaty to be superseded by a peace treaty.

The organization sends tangible resources to those in need to make an intangible difference in their lives through hope and empowerment. Collect items from their list of most-needed items. Bishop's Appeal for Migrant Needs
This year, the Bishop’s Appeal focuses on migrant needs. Your donations will help area organizations provide migrants with immediate needs like hygiene kits, temporary shelter, and food and longer-term needs like employment, housing, medical care, and legal assistance. As a conference we will partner with groups such as Justice For Our Neighbors, World Relief, Refugee One, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and NIC congregations. Apportionments allow us to do together what no church, district, or annual conference could do alone.
Every leader in the United Methodist Church, at some time, will have to explain our connectional giving (apportionments, mission shares, etc.). Here are five tips from Ken Sloane, Director of Stewardship & Generosity, to help you be prepared for that conversation.

Active Shooter Online Training for Churches
Two web-based training modules on "Active Shooter: Run, Fight & Hide" and "Violence in the Workplace" are available. Participants may take the training individually or as a group. Interested churches: send an email to Dwayne Jackson, NIC director of risk management and ministry protection (insurance), and include church name, title of person presenting the request, and number of training assignments required. NIC Prayer Network Monthly Zoom Meetings
The NIC Prayer Network is an entryway for joining in common prayer for the ministries of the Northern Illinois Conference. You’re welcome to join in praying for the upcoming events of our conference. Do you have news to share?
We are always looking for stories of what is happening in your church. We welcome articles from churches highlighting ministries, outreach, and missions that tell the story of being vital Christians. Events considered should be of conference-wide appeal and United Methodist-related.
District eNews are sent out the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Please submit stories and events by end of business on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Space is limited. Stories of fewer than 250 words are preferred. Submissions will be edited at the discretion of Communications staff. Information can be emailed to communications@umcnic.org.
