A Message from Pastor Sara

Many years, I frantically rush to the end to get all the Christmas "stuff" done. The gifts, the decorating, the wrapping, the baking, the meal prep, the cleaning. Each year I put unrealistic expectations on myself for all "I" have to do to get ready for Christmas.

This year has had to be different. Some things didn't get done. My family stepped in and helped with things that I normally like to do. And we punted...on a lot. And as my guilt is melting away, I'm grateful. Because Christmas is not about what "I" do. It's about what God does. It's about what God does for us and becomes incarnate.

I invite you to take intentional time from the to do list, to focus on the incarnation, God, Emmanuel, which means God with us. Maybe not in such a dramatic way as me this year, but take some intentional time to focus on God's love for you. This love that is for all, comes like a game of hide and seek. Ready or not, here Jesus comes! See you onsite or online 4:30 pm on Christmas Eve and 9:30 am for Pajama Brunch Worship (in old pjs because I didn't have the chance to go get new cute ones!) Merry Christmas!

God's Peace,
Pastor Sara

PS. Let’s have a Pastor Pop Up! I have a goal of doing 8 more before the end of 2022. (now January, another thing that won't get done on the list in time) Schedule one with me soon!

As the year comes to a close, you are invited to consider making a tax free donation to support the ongoing work of Joy Reigns Lutheran Church. You can make a safe and secure online gift through the mobile app or click here . You can also arrange to drop off a gift at church before the close of the business day on Friday December 30th, or mail it to PO Box 1436, Edgewater, MD 21037. It must be postmarked by 12/31 to be included for tax purposes this year. THANK YOU!
THANK YOU
To all those who voted for the Journey to Joy Christmas tree at the Rotary Club's annual Lights of Kindness event at Homestead Gardens. A local Edgewater-based business approached J2J to sponsor the tree this year in its name to raise awareness and funds for Journey to Joy - and we are happy to report we raised $322! Each vote was $1 - so that means the tree and its mission got 322 votes. We thank our sponsor and all who voted!

PRAYERS

With wonder and thanksgiving for Christ's coming into the world, we pray for the church, the life of the earth, and the whole human family.

Your infinite LOVE is born to us this night. With choirs of angels the church proclaims the good news. Send us out as messengers of the hope that has come to all people.

You are pleased to dwell with your CREATURES and the whole earth sings for joy. Renew the splendor of creation from the smallest cell to the widest galaxies. Guide us to be wise stewards of your gifts for the sake of generations to come.

Your authority is over the NATIONS. Break the rod of oppression in every land and free all people from fear. Bring peace where there is war, compassion where there is suffering, and healing where there is disease.

You cherish those who are most VULNERABLE. Protect infants and children, and bless those who care for them. Watch over women giving birth, those struggling with infertility, attend the dying, and relieve any who are in pain. Shelter refugee families and those who have no home.

Your loving kindness EMBRACES everyone in need. Help any for whom this season is lonely or joyless. Comfort those among us, or known to us, who are experiencing distress of body or mind, missing loved ones, or grieving.

Pondering the mystery of eternal love made flesh in Christ Jesus, we commend all for whom we pray to the mercy of God and any additional prayers
