Reminders, Announcements and Administrative Updates 
  • Welcome back to classes, ULs!

  • Apply to be a Student Ambassador! The Admissions Office is looking for positive and enthusiastic students to connect with prospective students. Connecting with current students is one of best ways for prospective students to get an idea of what it’s like to be a student at NUSL, and we need your help to bring in another great class! Your contact information (email) and a short bio will be published on our website if you are selected. The Admissions office may also contact ambassadors to volunteer for information sessions and other prospective student programming. If you are interested in applying, please fill out our Student Ambassador Application. If anyone has any questions, please contact Katie Ambler in the Admissions office.

  • Library guide to alternative textbook resources: Print course reserve continues to be unavailable due to ongoing pandemic concerns. The law library created a guide providing alternative sources to help students find new, used, rental or e-textbooks that you can find here.

  • 2L's and 3L's: It is time to apply for your endowed scholarships. The application can be found on your myNortheastern portal. It is a short application. In order to be reviewed for scholarships you will need to complete the form by Friday Sept 17th 2021. After Sept. 17th the application will no longer be on the portal and you will not be able to apply for any scholarships.
 
  • All funds have been deposited to student accounts. JD program students can apply for credit refund requests at this time. You can view your available credit balance in your myNortheastern portal by selecting Services and Links > Student Account, Payment, and E-bill Information. You can view your account detail by term on this page, including your current account balance. If your funds have not been deposited, please contact lawfinaid@northeastern.edu.

  • WLC Listserv: To stay up to date on WLC events, 1L e-board elections and our mentorship program, we are asking both new 1Ls and returning upper level students to please fill out the the following sign up form: https://forms.gle/5jRFr3XwttLP7Tih7 . We hope to see returning members and new members of all classes at our events this fall!

  • How to Be the Next MAX Scholarship Winner of Up to $40,000: Register for your Ask EDNA! account to access the MAX program – your free, personal finance program specifically designed for law school students. All you need to provide is your name, school, email, and the first year you attended law school. You can earn entries into the MAX scholarship drawings on November 1, February 1, and April 1 for $110,000 for each class year by:
  • Completing your MAX course modules and
  • Attending MAX Workshops.
  • You earn one entry for every activity you complete. If you complete all eight course modules for your class year and attend any two workshops, you will receive ten (10) additional scholarship entries – a total of 20! Make it your goal to MAXimize your MAX scholarship entries before November 1 scholarship drawing. You can also have a one-on-one 30-minute personal finance coaching call with a MAX Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) during one of the below time blocks. You can discuss your student loans, investment basics, debt management, or any other personal finance question.

  • Co-op & Career Deadlines:
  • The Main Deadline for Spring 2022 is Wednesday, October 13th at 11:59 PM Eastern.
  • The first deadline for Summer 2022 Collecting Co-ops is next Tuesday, September 14th at 11:59 PM EasternThis collection is for Upper-Level students only. 
  • The next Summer 2022 deadlines are October 26th (1st deadline open to 1Ls), December 1st (default deadline), and January 19th.

  • Fall Add/Drop Deadlines: The deadline to add fall upper level classes is September 22. The deadline to drop classes (without a “W”) is September 29.

  • LLM Resume & Cover Letter Workshop: Wednesday, September 15th, 12:45 - 2:00 pm. *Mandatory for all LLM students who will go on co-op in Spring 2022.​* Virtual Event via Zoom. Link to follow. This workshop led by Co-op advisor Lupita Colon will provide an overview of drafting U.S.-style legal resumes and cover letters. This is an integral part of getting you prepared for the upcoming Spring Co-op deadline on 10/13. 

  • Northeastern Constitution Day Lecture 2021: This year's Constitution Day lecture will be delivered by Professor Jamal Greene, Dwight Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, on September 16 at 10:30am via Zoom (login info to follow).

  • Public Interest Overview: Monday 9/27, 12:45 – 2:00 pm. Virtual event via Zoom. Are you interested in pursuing a co-op or post-graduate position in public interest and/ or government? Do you want to learn more about fellowships, government honors programs, and the incredible variety of public interest jobs?   • LLM Symplicity Training: Monday 9/27, 12:45 - 2:00 pm. Mandatory for all LLM students who will go on co-op in Spring 2022. In this session led by members of the Co-op Office's Operations Team, you will learn all about using the online Symplicity system to search for and apply for co-op opportunities. We will discuss the whole co-op process, including applications, interviews, offers, and final placements. In addition to the co-op process, we will review how to use Symplicity to research employers, make appointments with advisors, and access resources. More details will follow by email.
 
  • Equal Justice Works 2021 Conference and Career Fair: October 21 - 23, 2021. A virtual Public Interest Job Fair open to current students, 3Ls, and recent grads! The conference features 200 public interest employers who will conduct virtual interviews for Summer internships and post-grad positions, and informational "Table Talks." Students must register for the conference before applying to open positions. The deadline to apply for the pre-scheduled interviews is September 13th. Learn more here

RA, TA, and Work-Study Positions around Campus 
  • Professor Danielsen is seeking TA(s) for Corporations for Fall 2021 which will be held on Mon and Wed from 8:30-10:20. TAs must attend the class, provide written comments on student papers, hold regularly scheduled office hours and meet regularly with Professor Danielsen. Applications from law students with strong academic records, excellent writing skills and demonstrable familiarity with the field are welcome. Related co-op experience is a plus and Work Study is preferred. Resumes should be submitted to Professor Danielsen at d.danielsen@northeastern.edu.

  • Introduction to Civil Procedure - TEACHING ASSISTANT. Professor Duffly is looking for a 2nd or 3rd year student to work as a Teaching Assistant for the Fall Quarter LLM law class Introduction Civil Procedure. Work study eligible preferred. but it may also be possible to arrange for course credit. Being able to sit in on the entirety of every class is a necessity (Mondays 8AM-9:25AM and Wednesdays 9:35AM-11:00AM). Having had a co-op in a trial or appellate court, in a litigation practice, or participated in a relevant clinic, is not a necessity, but helpful. Duties include keeping track of student attendance and level of participation, holding review sessions, helping me to prepare PowerPoint slides and exam materials, and researching student questions that arise during class.   • The Office of the Dean in the School of Law at Northeastern University is seeking applicants for a front office receptionist who provides essential frontline support within the Office of the Dean. Responsibilities include front desk supervision and other tasks as needed.   • The See Something, Frame Something research project, a collaboration among NUSL, CAMD, CSSH and Khoury College, ​involving NUSL Professors Pat Williams, Lucy Williams, and Ari Waldman, is seeking a research assistant.   • The Time to Vote research project, a collaboration among NUSL, CAMD and CSSH, is studying the Boston mayoral primary and seeking students to be present at polling places on September 14. Work study compensation is available for students who are eligible. If interested, please email Shannon Al-Wakeel at s.al-wakeel@northeastern.edu.

  • CPIAC is pursuing a voting rights study in the Boston mayoral primary and seeking native speakers of Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Chinese (Simplified or Traditional), and Vietnamese to review automated translations of project materials.   • Clinic Front Desk Work-Study Positions: The Northeastern Law Clinics seek work-study eligible law students to assist at the front desk during the fall semester, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30am - 5pm, beginning Wednesday, September 8th. Responsibilities include greeting and directing clients and visitors to the Clinics, sorting and distributing mail, restocking and organizing office supplies, keeping the Clinic office clean and organized, assisting faculty and staff with general administrative tasks, and other projects as assigned. If interested, please email lawclinics@northeastern.edu. You do not need to be enrolled in a clinic to apply - this job is open to all work-study eligible law students.

  • Prisoners’ Rights Intake Desk Work-Study Positions: The Prisoners’ Rights Clinic is hiring work-study eligible law students to assist at the Prisoners’ Rights Intake Desk for the fall semester. Students will help to answer the PRC mail, staff the Prisoners’ Rights Clinic phone line in the Clinic space, and work with the Clinics’ legal software, Clio, to retrieve records from old parole cases to send to outside lawyers. Preference will be given to students who are currently enrolled in or have previously taken the Prisoners’ Rights Clinic. 2L and 3L students encouraged to apply.   • Intellectual Property Clinic Independent Study: Professor Jacoby seeks prior IP students interested in earning up to three credits of Independent Study for advanced fieldwork with the IP Clinic.   • Research Assistant Work-Study Position: Research Assistant needed to help Professor Rowan finalize a simulation and handbook on Movement Lawyering. Must have work-study funding. Opportunities for Student Distinction
  • The Boston Patent Law Association is currently seeking submissions for their annual writing competition. This is an excellent opportunity for students in the First Circuit to receive recognition for an IP-related writing piece and win a cash prize. The deadline to submit papers is September 30. More details on the competition are available on the website: https://www.bpla.org/page/49.   • The Hon. William C. Conner Writing Competition was established by the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA) to recognize exceptionally written papers that are submitted by law students and is presented each year at the Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner. The competition is open to students enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program (day or evening). The subject matter must be directed to one of the traditional subject areas of intellectual property, i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair trade practices, antitrust, and data security/privacy issues. Entries must be submitted electronically by Sunday, February 27, 2022, to Richard Brown, rbrown@daypitney.com. Find more information here.

  • The NLR Law Student Writing Competition offers law students the opportunity to submit articles for publication consideration on the NLR Web site. No entry fee is required. Applicants can submit an unlimited number of entries each month. Entries are reviewed October through May, when school is in session. Entries must be submitted via email to lawschools@natlawreview.com by 5:00 pm Central Standard Time by the last day of the month.

  • Northeastern University Law Review is accepting student-written submissions for publication in Volume 14, Issue 2. Submissions should be between 10,000 and 15,000 words (including footnotes) and follow a standard law review-style format. Please email your submissions to submissions.nulr@northeastern.edu

  • Northeastern University Law Review's online counterpart, Extra Legal, is accepting article submissions from faculty and students. Extra Legal aims to publish legal commentaries that support legal professionals and facilitate discussion of emerging legal issues. Submissions should be between 2,000 and 5,000 words and written as a formal Law Review article. Extra Legal is looking for responses to current events. More information can be found here.   • The Law Review Online Forum is accepting submissions from students to write a piece on any legal, policy, or current events topic of their choice. The Forum provides an opportunity for NUSL students to publish an article, gain writing experience, and express their views! All posts are generally between 250 and 2,500 words and follow a blog-style format.
