Sometimes the right YouTube video comes up at the right time.
I was trying to find a message that was different than what we had been listening to for the past several months. I wanted to focus on something positive and get away from negativity and stress. I stumbled upon gratitude.
According to several studies, you can gain a lot from being grateful. For example, a study done by Virginia Commonwealth University indicated that people who showed thankfulness had SIGNIFICANTLY lower risk of major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, phobia, nicotine dependence, and drug abuse. Also, if you practice being grateful, it can increase your self-esteem. WHY? (And this blew my mind!) "When you compare yourself to others rather than appreciate what you have, you're not only expending more energy, but your self-esteem is left to hang in the balance of 'who's better.'"
If you believe you have nothing to be grateful for after reading the above, please consider these facts.
-
If you can say the following, then you are richer than 75% of this world: I have food in the refrigerator, clothes on my back, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep.
-
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish some place, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.
-
If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.
-
If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing that someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all. (https://youtu.be/xGMQHD5KjL4 of the above information.)
I loved the message of the video above, and I hope that you can connect to it and see the blessings in your everyday life.

Delivering the WOW experience
|
|
Karen Elliott, RN and infection control and cardiac stress testing nurse, shared her appreciation recently for the CHCS Access Services team.
"We are so lucky to have Access Services," Elliott said, noting that while working to schedule procedures elsewhere for services not offered by CHCS, "it is a MESS. They can't tell me if my insurance covers it, if I'm in network or out of network, or what my out-of-pocket will be," she said.
Thank you, Access Services, for providing the WOW experience for our patients. We tend to forget that not all hospitals provide such excellent service!
Have you notice an individual or a group at CHCS delivering the WOW experience? Send it to Sarah Hancock or call extension 5133.
Thank you, Karen, for taking time to share!

We shared the following update about the CHCS pool project on social media earlier this week.
We know many are hoping to use the CHCS pool soon. We have encountered quite a few delays in shipping parts and construction, but we made good progress on new sheetrock last week. After sheetrock is finished, we will work on AC, then turn the project over to our pool contractor. We are hopeful that we will be finished in approximately 6 weeks.
It has taken a lot of prep work to get this far, and we thank our maintenance department for managing through a difficult project!
Thanks for your patience and understanding. We are all going to be so excited when the pool remodel is finished!

More parades are coming soon!
- The Corning Day Parade is July 31 at 5:00 p.m. Mollie Hiltibrand is taking charge of the banner and parade handout goodies. She is out of town until Friday. If you are interested in joining, please join Mollie to line up at the ballpark at 4:15-4:30.
- The Pottawatomie County Fair Parade is Sunday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m. Michelle Lippert and Suzanne Booth are coordinating CHCS efforts. Redbud will have a float, and we need a few more associates to walk, hand out goodies, and represent CHCS. Please let Suzanne Booth know if you can join!
CHCS provides a parade banner, candy, and plastic cups to hand out to spectators. Walkers should wear a CHCS T-shirt and a big smile. Thanks to all who represent CHCS at these fun community events. We appreciate your outreach!

If you missed the festivities but would still like to purchase raffle tickets, you can contact Kelsey Edwards via email or at ext. 5048 to purchase tickets. The raffle closes at the end of the day Friday, July 30. Winners will be announced Monday, August 2.
We'll also announce fundraising results soon. Again, thank you for giving back to CHCS to help us continue to live our mission!

These photos are from the visit to Holton. We'll share photos from other locations next week.
Holton associates did an exceptional job of getting into the spirit of the occasion with fun outfits, and they bought a ton of raffle tickets! Many also took advantage of the opportunity to toss a water balloon at the CEO. He took it well!
