Watts Towers that Altered the L.A. Skyline...
Over 100 years since their creator Sabato “Sam” Rodia first began constructing them,
the Watts Towers are still standing. Renowned for their brute allure and sculptural marvel,
the towers, erected like Gaudian antennas, are located in the Watts neighborhood
of southern Los Angeles.
The landmarks are a wonder of human ingenuity and outsider art: a collection
of 17 interconnected pylons spiraling almost 10 stories high, made using scrap metal
and found objects, built by a man who had no formal training as either an artist

Georgia O'Keeffe was sent to Hawaii to paint pineapples. She painted...
In 1938, Dole, then known as the Hawaiian Pineapple Company, offered to take
the American artist Georgia O’Keeffe on a paid trip to the Pacific island
to paint their flagship fruit for an upcoming marketing campaign.
Although O’Keeffe wasn’t a fan of commissions, especially commissions coming from large corporations, the deal arrived at an opportune time.
While O’Keeffe was blown away by the natural beauty of Honolulu’s pineapple fields, which she described as “all sharp and silvery stretching for miles off
to the beautiful irregular mountains,” the first round of paintings she produced
for Dole upon returning home included everything but pineapples.
Among an array of interesting subjects, she painted lobster-claws, papaya trees, dried lava, and waterfalls...
