Description:

The Pyramid Model provides the framework for understanding children’s social-emotional development and how professionals and practitioners support families. The three tiers of the Pyramid Model include Promotion, Prevention, and Intervention and understanding how children’s social-emotional skills can be strengthened and their families empowered in each tier benefits all early intervention providers. During this workshop, practitioners will develop knowledge of family systems theory and core concepts of social-emotional development including co-regulation, attachment, behavior, and understanding grief and trauma. This workshop will allow participants to ask questions, engage collaboratively, and further their knowledge of social-emotional practices in early intervention.

What is New Path?

New Path, a program under The Arc of Virginia, focuses on offering peer-to-peer support designed to empower, educate, and connect families. This support is crucial during various stages, such as Early Intervention and the transition from Part C to Part B services, continuing until other community services have taken over in providing necessary support to the family and child(ren). This program aims to ensure families have the understanding and resources needed to navigate these critical phases effectively.

POLL ANSWER AND EXPLANATION

When is a parental prior notice required for transition steps?

a.      Prior to meeting to develop the transition plan.

b.      Prior to transition planning conference if the parent approves it.

c.       Prior to transition planning conference for all potentially eligible children.

d.      a&c

The correct answer is d: both a and c.

The correct answer is d: (a&c). Both the meeting to develop the transition plan and the transition planning conference must meet the requirements of an IFSP meeting. The parental prior notice must be sent prior to either meeting even if the parent declines the transition planning conference. Transition Planning Conferences must be offered for all potentially eligible children. The PPN for the Transition Planning Conference documents this offer.

For more information, please see Chapter 8 of the Practice Manual, page 27 (#4 – 2nd bullet under a), page 30 (#5 – 2nd bullet under a), and page 36 (1st and 2nd bullet).
