Celebrating a few of the Dads of Senior Services Staff!

Wendell is Lane Claxton's 92 year old father. Lane, Program Coordinator for Senior Services, shared the following: Wendell is an amazing man, who is thoughtful, kind, generous, adventurous, resourceful, smart, and a little stubborn! He grew up in Seiling, Oklahoma and moved to Boulder in 1948 to work for the University of Colorado in IT, and he never left. He loves God, Colorado, gardening, restoring cars, people, and all animals. He also loves to laugh. Wendell would give you the shirt off his back. He's a true example of a good man, friend, and father. Happy Father's Day Dad.

Gene is Tanya Rohr's father. Tanya, Administrative Technician for Senior Services, shared the following: I was blessed to have Gene as my dad in 2002 when he and my mother married. He was the orneriest man, yet the most loving and caring. Gene cared about me just like one of his own, and showed me how to be more accepting, forgiving, strong, and a bit sassy! Gene was 74 years old when he passed away, and he is missed dearly every day. Happy Father's Day in Heaven Dad!

Chris is Jennifer Hussey's father. Jennifer, Easy Ride Coordinator for Senior Services, shared the following: My dad grew up poor and worked with his father, a German immigrant, to build a family business. Even though the business flourished, he never forgot what it felt like as a kid to not have extra money for a soda pop or a candy bar when the other kids did. He always asked us if we had "walking around money", something that I asked my kids and they ask theirs.

Enjoy a Safer Summer
Summer is just around the corner! Are you ready? Follow these six tips for a safer summer!
- Get vaccinated! Vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine before or after travel and can visit international destinations.
- Wear a face covering when the situation requires it. Face coverings, in combination with other prevention measures, are an effective prevention technique.
- Protect teens and children! Teens and children that are unable to get vaccinated are still at risk, and case rates in the 10-19 age group have been increasing. Help teens and children pick low-risk activities, follow public health guidance, keep up preventative measures, and get vaccinated when available.
- ️ Opt-outside. Outside gatherings present less risk than indoor gatherings.
- Evaluate risk. Depending on your vaccination status, medical history, or other factors some types of events may present more risk than others.
- ️ Check for local public health ordinances before traveling. Unnecessary travel is still not recommended, but if you do travel keep in mind other states or counties may have local rules in place that vary from Broomfield.
