Take Your Safety Career to the Next Level
Earn a Safety Associate Certificate – Level I
|

The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District offers five Professional Safety Certificates to help you take your career and your organization’s safety program to the next level. These programs provide real-world information that can be immediately applied to the workplace, giving you knowledge in many safety and health subjects and allowing you to build upon your safety expertise.

Consider earning your Safety Associate Certificate - Level I if:
- You want to embark on a safety career
- Your job requires you to have a solid understanding of safety and health principles
- You are concerned about or have responsibility for workplace safety

The Safety Associate Certificate provides attendees with a solid foundation for understanding OSHA regulatory standards and developing solutions to workplace safety challenges. Participants can tailor the program to reflect their own areas of interest through a selection of required courses and electives with an emphasis on construction or general industry.
Program Outcomes
- Understand the essential elements of an effective workplace safety program
- Learn the fundamentals of OSHA standards and how they affect your business
- Learn to identify potential hazards and their solutions
- Develop accident (incident) investigation skills
Career Opportunities
U.S. Department of Labor projections and other industry studies show that through newly created opportunities and positions vacated due to retirement, there is a need for more than 30,000 newly trained workers by 2024. Certificate holders may qualify for positions such as an Assistant Safety Specialist, Safety Coordinator, or Safety Technician. Learn More

OSHA Announces New Leadership
|
|
Douglas L. Parker was recently sworn in as OSHA's Assistant Secretary of Labor. Mr. Parker most recently served as chief of California's Division of Occupational Safety and Health. Prior to that, Parker was executive director of Worksafe, an Oakland, California-based legal services provider. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy in the Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration during the Obama Administration. Full Bio

OSHA Urges Employers to Keep Young Workers Safe
|
|
Do you employ young workers? Young workers are those new to the workforce, even up to age 24. Young workers can be an asset to your workforce. However, it may be their first job or the first time they are operating equipment.
You can prevent or reduce workplace injuries and make work safer for all workers, including youth. Under the OSH Act of 1970, employers have the responsibility to provide a safe and healthful work environment and comply with occupational safety and health standards. Driving Employee Participation in Safety Webinar

This 1-day course provides an introduction to basic accident investigation procedures and describes accident analysis techniques to help participants gain the basic skills necessary to conduct an effective accident investigation at their workplace. The course is designed for individuals responsible for their organization's safety and health system, and who would be involved in conducting accident and/or near-miss investigations.

This 4-day course is designed for those who are interested in teaching OSHA's 10-hour and 30-hour construction safety and health outreach classes to employees and other interested groups. Participants learn effective instructional approaches, adult learning principles and training techniques.

This course covers industrial hygiene practices and related OSHA regulations and procedures. Course topics include recognition, evaluation, and control of chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic hazards, Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL), OSHA health standards, respiratory protection, engineering controls, OSHA sampling protocols and strategies, and workplace health program elements.

December 13-16 | In-Person
|
|
|
This is a 3-day refresher course for those who have completed OSHA #501-Trainer Course for General Industry and are authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program. It provides an update on OSHA General Industry Standards and policies. Outreach Trainers are required to attend this course once every four (4) years to maintain their authorized trainer status.

December 20-22 | VILT via Zoom

In-Person Classes: Physical distancing and other safety guidelines are followed in all In-Person classes, and class sizes are reduced.
|
|
In Region IX OSHA numbered Virtual, Instructor-Led classes offered via Zoom are only available to participants located in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands. Contact us if you are unsure if this applies to you.
