The Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost

Luke 15:1-10

"Perilous, Reckless Love"

Rev. Mitch Maxted

Message from Pastor Mitch

Hello Round Rock Christian Church! As of today, Tuesday, September 6th, I am back serving you and serving God with you. My three-month sabbatical has ended.

I knew as I resumed my work that I wanted to use this space today to thank you for making my sabbatical possible. The Sabbatical Task Force, headed by Tasha York, did a wonderful job of organizing and preparing for my time away.  I'm sure that Anna Marie Blair served you well throughout the summer, and I look forward to my meeting with her tomorrow to begin to "get caught up."  Moreover, I know that many of you took on extra responsibilities this summer, leading various groups throughout the week and welcoming our visiting ministers on Sundays.

What I didn't know as I arrived at the church first thing this morning was that I would find a "renewed and refreshed" office.  My office looks great! My work space is now much more visitor-friendly and visually appealing. And so I also thank all who had a part in this project. Your TLC is evident in the work!

Next week I'll let you know a little bit about how I spent my three months. I also will communicate some possible adjustments to my weekly routine of office hours, email frequency, and time off.

Peace in Christ,

Pastor Mitch

Elders Prayer/Closing Message

AN OUTLINE OF GRACE

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

JOHN 14.6

Paul entered the pages of Scripture as Saul, the self-professed Pharisee of all Pharisees and the most religious man in town. But all his scruples and law keeping hadn’t made him a better person. He was bloodthirsty and angry, determined to extinguish anything and everyone Christian.

His attitude began to change on the road to Damascus. That’s when Jesus appeared, knocked him off his high horse, and left him sightless for three days. Paul could see only one direction: inward. And what he saw he did not like.

We aren’t told when Paul realized the meaning of grace. Was it immediately on the Damascus road? Or gradually during the three-day darkness? Or after Ananias restored his sight? We aren’t told. But we know that Paul got grace. Or grace got Paul. Either way, he embraced the improbable offer that God would make us right with him through Jesus Christ. Paul’s logic followed a simple outline:

Our debt is enough to sink us.

God loves us too much to leave us.

So God has found a way to save us.

Unshakable Hope
