SUBMITTING JOYS AND SORROWS

Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.

During this Sunday's service on August 21, the congregation will be recognizing all those present who are going back to school… whether they started this week or will start in the days ahead… from preschool all the way up to college!

Our ministers will have a very special gift to give to each of our students early on in the service.

Whether or not you have a school age child in your family we hope to see you all because it’s Back To School Time and we all want to Celebrate our UUCUC Students!
CHILDREN'S RE&E WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING THE SERVICE THIS SUNDAY!

A friendly reminder, please be sure to always check the service description each week and double check for the sign on Sunday mornings indicating whether RE&E is available during that week's service.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
Your contributions and support allow us to continue to respond with love and resources to the needs in our congregation and the wider community. We couldn’t do it without your support and we are grateful to each of you.

  • Online Donations
  • If you prefer mailing a check, please mail the check to the UUCUC office at 309 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801.
FELLOWSHIP HOUR
Join us at 11:30 (or immediately following the service) for an in-person fellowship with coffee, beverages, treats, and good conversation on UUCUC's South Lawn.
As of Thursday, August 18, 2022, the COVID-19 transmission level in Champaign County is HIGH. That means masks will be required in UUCUC's building for all activities until the transmission level drops to Medium or Low. When In-Person Fellowship Hour is scheduled, it will also be moved outside as the weather permits. Please visit this link for UUCUC's current COVID Safety Guidelines.

YRUU will be regathering for their first meeting this Sunday at UUCUC in the YRUU room from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.! First order of business will be painting the walls, so if you plan to attend, please wear clothes you do not mind getting paint on.

Join fellow UUs in a monthly writers group where we do “quick writes” & share any writing we are inclined to. For more information, contact Pat Nolan.

To continue our summer of fun, YRUU will be having a pizza dinner and gathering on Friday, August 26th from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. The location is TBD. For more information and to access the RSVP link, see here.

On Sunday, September 11, newcomers and visitors are invited to tour through UUCUC, get to know others new to the community, share a bit about background, and learn about what it means to get connected to this congregation. This event will be followed by an all-congregation social hour out on the lawn. For more information, see here.

Their Amazon wish list has been updated to include unique summer items. The wishlist can be sorted to identify high priority items. All orders sent through Amazon are delivered to Julie's house and split between the two pantries. You are also welcome to drop off items in person at both locations. Questions? Contact Julie (jlaut@hushmail.com) or AJ (zogs92@gmail.com).
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, August 14, 2022.

From Sam Beshers: Joy for my father, Daniel Beshers, who turned 94 yesterday.

From Jerry Carden: It was a joy to see Emil Cobb at his button table at the Farmer's Market, back after his recent illness.

From Karla Peterson: For spending time with various family members in Colorado, Georgia and Michigan, the latter for the annual family reunion. Much love and sharing.
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

SOCIAL ACTION OFFERING FOR AUGUST 2022
The Education Justice Project (EJP) is the UUCUC Shared Offering organization for August.

The Education Justice Project (EJP) is a college-in-prison program based at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. EJP offers college courses for credit, as well as extracurricular activities, at Danville Correctional Center, a medium-security men’s prison about 45 miles from the Urbana-Champaign campus.

EJP offers upper-division courses that students can take to earn University of Illinois credit. These credits can be applied towards certificates or, upon release, to bachelor’s degree programs. Our other programs at the prison include workshops, a library, a student newsletter, and a mindfulness group, among others.

In addition to our work in the prison, EJP works to support people leaving prison and reentering society. Our Reentry Guide Initiative produces guides and other resources and distributes them to incarcerated individuals, family members, and service agencies across the state and beyond.

Finally, EJP advocates for systems-involved people and the expansion of higher education in prison throughout the state and nation. We host campus and community events, and have a scholarship program. Several EJP members are on the Illinois Higher Education in Prison Task Force, which seeks to advise and recommend the Illinois General Assembly on the expansion of higher education in prison in Illinois.
