How climate change may challenge national security

A recent report from U.S. security agencies recommended that Congress create a new legal pathway for humanitarian protection in the United States for individuals facing serious threats to their lives because of climate change. Teevrat Garg said that wealthy countries – which have created the bulk of carbon emissions driving climate change – have “an obligation to support climate refugees.” The New York Times. Local governments key to slowing pace of climate change

In a new decarbonization framework report released by San Diego County, experts examined strategies for slashing local carbon emissions. Each alternative has benefits as well as trade-offs, explained Gordon McCord, who is coordinating analysis and research for the framework. “The idea is not to provide the ‘plan’ but to provide a list of options for local debate, and a shared vision for how the system needs to evolve,” McCord said.
