Diwali 2021
Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the biggest and most popular festivals celebrated by Hindus all across the globe. Each year, this event is observed on the 15th day of the Kartik month on the Hindu Lunar Calendar. This year, Diwali falls on November 4th and celebrations have already begun.

The Diwali festival usually lasts five days. While mainly considered a Hindu festival, Diwali is also celebrated by Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. This event originated on the Indian subcontinent and is mentioned in early Sanskrit texts. Because of the scope of this five-day celebration, there are other faiths in India who observe their own respective festivals alongside Diwali.

Also known as the Festival of Lights, this nearly week-long celebration signifies peace and joy, the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. During this festival, people clean their homes and decorate every corner with lights, lamps, flowers and candles. Families also pray to the Goddess of Wealth to bless them with health and prosperity. Diwali sends the message of illuminating our inner selves with clarity and positivity, while eradicating negativity and doubts from our lives.

This year, there are celebrations honoring Diwali across the State of Massachusetts. The Museum of Fine Arts is hosting a Diwali exhibit and there is also a Diwali event at the Worcester Art Museum. There are dances and dinners from Taunton to Dorchester in celebration of this festival. If you are interested in attending a Diwali event, a quick Google search will give you access to all of the events that are being hosted in the State this week.
