SMSDC's Biggest Event of the Year is next month! Have you registered?
Our first in-person conference in 3 years is happening June 21-23rd in San Antonio, TX. The Premier Face Time Expo & Golf Tournament - "Process Excellence" is back and better than ever! Registration is open on our website now!
The three-day event is a networking forum designed to connect Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) with corporations that are looking for procurement opportunities with diversity suppliers. World-class Buyers Breakfast Roundtable (BBR) will feature a series of interactive discussions led by corporate members, buyers, state agency representatives and other buying entities. Corporations such as Toyota, ConocoPhillips, Dell, Chevron, Johnson Controls, Oncor, El Paso Electric, Apache Corporation, UT Austin, and many more are ready to discuss upcoming opportunities for all Certified MBEs.
We are currently setting up appointments for 1x1 sessions with corporate buyers and myself! That's right! "Chat with the President" is back. Our golf tournament is BACK! This year we have booked The Quarry Golf Course for Friday, June 23rd. Dating back to 1908, chiseled from stone to create the most dramatic golf course in Texas. Talk business! Network and most of all RELAX & HAVE FUN!

May has gotten off to a very busy start! I have been working closely with the SMSDC staff to prepare for our upcoming Lunch & Learn this Thursday, May 18th hosted by the Minority Business Development Agency in San Antonio. We are so excited to have them host us and showcase all of the value they can bring to our MBE’s.
The San Antonio MBDA Business Center is dedicated to helping the minority entrepreneurs flourish and grow in today's marketplace. Part of the UTSA Institute for Economic Development and the MBDA network, the San Antonio Business Center has a proven track record of service and advocacy in the minority business community. In operation since 1982, the center has served over 3,500 clients, assisted in procuring over $170 million in contracts, and aided in securing over $185 million in loans and bonds.
In addition to this, I had the pleasure of attending the NMSDC Minority Business Economic Forum in Miami, Florida last week. I had the opportunity to hear about the meaningful action and commitment to integrate MBE’s into every aspect of businesses to help close the wealth gap for systematically excluded communities of color and help generate the next wave of economic equity. Several SMSDC MBEs were in attendance and it was great to see them and connect!

Lastly, the SMSDC is excited to see everyone at the upcoming 2023 Premier Face Time Expo & Golf Tournament June 22-23, 2023. If you have not signed up to attend or sponsor, you still have time. New MBE Applicants: Register for
Pre-Certification Sessions
Participation in the information session should take place prior to the submittal of your application to SMSDC.
All new MBE's must attend Pre-Certification & Post-Certification sessions to assist with the application process. Applicants can now schedule an appointment for One-On-One Information Sessions. The sessions are held by scheduled appointment only every Wednesday from 10am-12pm.
We will discuss:
- Criteria for Certification
- Review of the Application Process
- Answer most common application questions
To get certified you will need to meet the criteria set forth by NMSDC, complete the online application and upload all required documentation.
Please email Alana Ortega at alana@smsdc.org to register for the Pre-Certification Session to complete the first step in the certification process.

As an SMSDC certified MBE company and currently participating in the NMSDC Centers of Excellence Certificate Program, Usha Boddapu, President & CEO of ESOLVIT, Inc, was awarded the most Prestigious Congressional honor Global Women of Excellence award at Capital Washington D.C International women’s day 2023 on March 8th, 2023.
"I am so honored to receive the 11th Congressional International Women's day Award as one of the "Global Women of Excellence". I am so grateful to have been able to celebrate International Women's Day at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C," said Usha Boddapu. "It truly is a dream come true to be awarded by the most respected congressman representatives: Danny K. Davis, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Delia Ramirez, and Jonathan Jackson during the 2023 celebrations."
"I am just filled with joy as it is a journey of 25 years to be recognized for my story of growth and learning and to hear similar stories of honorable-minded women that made their dreams a reality was a gem of a moment," Usha continued. "When looking back at my career and my journey, I immediately burst into tears, thinking of all the hard work it took to reach a stage where I am being honored by a congressman but also reach a stage where I can give my knowledge and mentoring back to aspiring business professionals."
"I am dedicating this award to everyone who has been a part of my journey and forever thankful for all of your support in helping me make my dreams a reality," said Usha.
Usha is currently serving as a President and Chief Executive Officer of MBE company, ESOLVIT, INC., and President and Chief AI Scientist at ARYTIC Inc. spearheading the Technology world with a visionary mind and forward-thinking. Her realms of expertise include the creation of jobs, innovations, public speaking, and mentorship. Under Usha’s leadership, she generated several thousands of jobs and executed multi-billion-dollar government contracts.
