Half-way into our 2019-2020 Season
|
We started this season with a performance at the Fontana Arts Festival in July, Waa showcases in August, and the
San Pedro Festival of the Arts at Anderson Center in September, where we both produced and presented 25 dance and music groups as well as performing ourselves. Three of our 13 school residencies also began. In October we performed the complete dance/multimedia "The Patchwork Girl of Oz" for 6 performances at the
Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood (with thanks for part of the funding for students to our Councilman Mitch O'Farrell and our LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas).
Although we also have an exciting school version, these performances had all the multimedia to go with the wonderful characters of Oz, along with study guides and extended meets with the cast. Then on Oct 19 & 20 there were 2 different performances each day for the public, including at 2pm the Family Friendly "The Patchwork Girl of Oz" and at 4 pm the 40th Anniversary program with the Los Angeles premiere of "A Jewish Child's Story" (yes, we have performed the complete work in Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, and Culver City- and finally it came back to our home base of Los Angeles. Also on the program was the complete "The Tennis Dances" (30') last performed in Los Angeles in 2015 See more about that program on our web site under
Concert Performances/Repertory and under News.

Please come visit our new website. It was designed and created by Eric Sommerfeld as a Taproot+ project, with a concept presented by Nancy Hytone Leb as part of a CA Arts Council grant project. Writing is by Louise Reichlin with additional by Kelly Peters. The wonderful photos are from 40 years of company history. And Board Member Al Lesser was inspired by that one and redesigned our TriartSP.com site.

Our school residencies this fall included Los Feliz STEM Magnet and Coldwater Canyon El, (students from those 2 performing in 2 of the dances at the Barnsdall series), and Laurel STEM, Ann St El and Yorkdale Ave El, during September, adding Eagle Tree Continuing HS, Compton Ave, 118th St El, Sunny Brae El, Danube, Virginia Road El and Burton El in October, and 42nd St El in November with funding from a mix of the Arts Community Network (ACN) of the LAUSD Arts Office, the CA Arts Council, and individual donors. Also attending our Barnsdall school series as audience were Lexington Primary, Kingsley El, Nevin El, Micheltorena El, Crescent Heights Boulevard Magnet, with help from our Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and individual donors. Next semester we have several openings through a grant from the Dept of Cultural Affairs/ City of LA, for schools in Los Angeles City Council Districts
3, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 12. This includes at least 3 student classes leading to a public performance with our company. The other opening, funded by the CA Arts Council, is for 20 classes (2 classrooms x 10 each) leading to 2 performances with our company and a professional staff development for your teachers. So California Dance Directory - Is your company listed?
|
The
Southern CA Dance Directory
that I began in 1995 is alive and well with over 580 listings of professional dance companies and related organizations. The URL has now changed, so please make note. This free service is accessed by thousands of people each month, and I've heard that dance jobs have often come about through the information! But....if the wrong email or phone number is there, it's up to you to contact us and it will be fixed, usually within 24 hours. If you are not there and would like to be, please email the information in the format that is there. This is a special project that is a labor of love - no grants funds involved - so if you want to use it, please help keep it up to date. Contact us at

Recommendation of a Fantastic Dance & Visual Art Film- CUNNINGHAM |
When I was a young dancer in New York, I was privileged to take Merce Cunningham's company class and a choreography class he taught with Buckminster Fuller (and sometimes John Cage). This film recreates the early days of Cunningham's work with recordings of his original company, and later by his last company. See this film for a powerful view of this important artist! I can't wait to see it again!
