Last Day of Warm Weather Uniform This Friday

This Friday, October 18 marks the last day students are permitted to wear their warm weather uniforms until mid-April. With that being said, next week is Spirit Week, which will allow students to dress up/down in the Spirit Day themes on Tuesday and Thursday.

Stallions in the Spotlight

Congratulations to junior Jocelyn Green who was recognized as an October Student of the Month by the Westerville Rotary Club for exhibiting the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self."

Eight students attended the Salesian Leadership Retreat in Stonybrook. NY last week. Seniors Eunice Otu-Danquah and Aylin Mai, who had attended the retreat as juniors, were chosen to come back again and help lead the retreat. Juniors AnnaLee Beach, Natalie Everitt, Rebecca Gebhart, Ben Reither, Malynn Saka, and Alex VanAllsburg all attended the retreat with the goal of bringing back the Salesian principles to the school and improving the faith lives of themselves and their classmates.

Junior Sarah Seidu is being recognized this week by the Columbus Dispatch for Student of the Week. Please take a moment to vote for her today! Vote Here.

Several members of the senior class traveled to the Maria Stein Retreat Center last week to enjoy time together on the Fall Kairos retreat. They spent four days of "God's time" deepening their faith and strengthening their connection to God and to one another.

The Family Fiesta was a great event for our DeSales family. A special thank you to the planning committee for making it so special. Orale Guëy provided amazing food and attendees brought a variety of authentic dishes. Students led games and activities that children and adults joyfully participated in. We look forward to hosting the event again and seeing you all there next year!

Hallow Catholic Prayer App

St. Francis DeSales High School is a partner with the Catholic prayer app Hallow. It is available to all students, faculty and staff via their iPads or personal devices. SFD is pleased to offer parents a 90-day free trial to the app. This trial starts when you use the code below to access all features in the app. Hallow started a 13 day series today on the C.S. Lewis work Mere Christianity, which is a powerful defense of Christianity. Hallow offers prayers, meditations and challenges you can use weekly or daily.

Chaplain’s Corner

Praised be Jesus Christ! During October, the Church reminds us of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. As Respect Life month, not only do we work to protect the unborn, but we work to protect the dignity and value of every human person. We do this by serving the hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless, sick, imprisoned, and the dead. This month, may we seek new ways to serve others by giving them our time and presence.

October is also the month of the Holy Rosary. Through praying the Rosary, we ask for the intercession of Our Mother Mary, who has a unique relationship with Christ. When we offer our intentions to her, she shines them up, as if they were beautiful treasures, before giving them to Our Lord. So, this month, we can grow in our spiritual works of mercy by praying for the living, especially the unborn, through the devotion of the Rosary.

Spiritual Reflection

Loving God, you instructed the Pharisee that you desire purity of the heart. Help us, your people, always to yearn to truly serve you, not by appearance, but by opening our hearts and our lives to your loving will. Grant us a spirit of generosity so that we may always grow in holiness and love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
