YOUR TIME IS IMPORTANT
The most common reason pipeline contractors use PLM for machine transport is because they do not have the time or resources to manage the process. PLM will handle the transport from beginning to end. Consider the amount of time it takes to hire a transport company when there is a truck shortage, the emails and calls for confirmation, arranging of correct permitting, weight limit and timing, inspection on departure and arrival, etc. And this is just for domestic machine transport. Crossing international borders would include coordinating with a port and overseeing the cleaning of the entire machine prior to inspection at the port or border crossing. More than one machine to transport? No problem. PLM takes care of all of this and more, one machine at a time.
SAVE MONEY
PLM has established valuable relationships with transport vendors that have special annual permitting, allowing them to speed up the process and offer lower rates because the permit is already in-hand. They can cross state lines within a short amount of time and are already familiar with the type of transport needed and its requirements. This allows us to negotiate a rate that is more than reasonable. Some of the larger pipeline contractors have a small fleet of their own freight trucks but, they are typically busy moving their own fleet from project to project and their various locations. Using PLM logistical services can help pick up the slack without it being costly.
