Scarecrows Ready to Come Down
for the 2021 Season
A Huge Round of Applause for ALL Participating Businesses in the 2021 Scarecrow Walk

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the 5th Annual Scarecrow Walk by making and displaying a scarecrow for what has become a much-anticipated tradition in Waterdown Village.

  • More than 100 BIA businesses displayed a scarecrow this year
  • More than half a dozen community organizations joined the program
  • Several more local residents also put together and displayed a scarecrow at home

Despite a rainy October, we saw lots of people out scarecrow hunting over the last three weeks. Many attendees of this year's Treat Walk told us face-to-face how much they enjoyed completing the Scarecrow Walk. This annual event continues to build momentum and drive foot traffic to our BIA district. Thank you for dressing up our Village and creating a palpable fall energy.

We will be collecting and tabulating ballots in the next few weeks to announce shopping spree prize winners and 2021 business winners by mid-November. Stay tuned for those announcements - although every scarecrow was a winner in our eyes.

Scarecrow Dismantling
Scarecrows can come down any time now (when convenient) as the 'hunt' is officially over. Please do not throw out your scarecrow frame. We asked that you store it to re-use next year, or return it to the BIA office.
How will handle your scarecrow for the off-season?
I will store our scarecrow frame at our business location
I will return our scarecrow frame to the BIA office for storage
Ballot Boxes
If you had a ballot box at your business, please continue to display it until end of day this Wednesday, November 3. We like to give participants a few extra days to get their ballots in to be eligible for the prize draws.

If you were not an official ballot box location but participants dropped ballots at your business anyway, please let us know asap. We want to ensure all eligible participants are included in the draw.

Scarecrow Gallery
All of your wonderful creations have been shared on the BIA's social media accounts. A full gallery of scarecrow photos will be posted on the BIA website soon.

Thanks for the Treats, Too!
With your help, we stuffed 1,600 treat bags to give out at four different treat stations spread throughout Waterdown Village on Saturday. We had dancers, a singer and a clown also livening up the streets for our first live event day in two years.

The turnout for the Treat Walk was slightly dampened by the rain, but the wet weather did not dampen the spirits of the treat seekers and pets that braved the drizzle to join the fun.

Thank you for helping us make this COVID-modified event happen.

Please don't hesitate to provide feedback on the Scarecrow Walk or the Treat Walk so we can continue to improve on future events to ensure they are meeting our goals:
  • Drive foot traffic
  • Animate our streets
  • Generate awareness for your businesses.
